I came across this picture on my Facebook feed showing an early design of the I-90/I-405 interchange. As you can see, this interchange design was horrible! It had left exits and entrances, as well as two loop ramps. I'm glad a stack interchange was built instead of whatever this was.



This photo was part of a post about the opening of the Hood Canal Bridge. Apparently, they had this interchange design on display there back in 1961.

Thanks for sharing. It's giving me serious 5/405 vibes (by vibes I mean PTSD).

I believe the present interchange was opened around 1970, before all the cross-lake delays, so the plan must have changed pretty quick. The diagram in that photo seems to suggest they were going to use more of the original roadways; the westbound carriageway and southbound carriageways both line up with old US-10 and the original north-south highway (respectively) pretty perfectly.
