I’ve just searched a few municipalities, counties, and ZIP codes (all on a Mac desktop using Safari), and all are showing up correctly with a red outline showing the boundary and a dark tint covering the outside area.
At least one category of boundaries that
isn’t showing up correctly (and wasn’t in prior weeks/months either) is school districts. What’s odd about it is that Google apparently does have district boundary information, and if you search the name of a school district using the general Google web search (on desktop, anyway), you typically get a Google Knowledge Panel including an inset map with the boundaries of the district. Yet if you click on that map, the resulting Google Map that opens simply places a pinpoint at the geographic center of the district and does not show the boundaries—making it nearly impossible to determine whether a specific address is in that district or not.
