Quote from: hotdogPi on April 17, 2026, 10:53:12 AMThere are three people with a fake join date: him, Alex (January 1 of the correct year), and Alps (02/02/2020, in the future when it was put there).
Are we sure that's fake?  It started just a couple weeks later, and presumably took a bit of time to set up.  New Year's Day might have been a convienent day with no work/school for Alex and Voyager to begin.

Make sure you go into a lengthy explanation about pair bonding or I will be greatly impleased.
So that's what we were supposed to do in the bbarr...

Apologies. I was going for the sarcastic angle on that post. I should specify next time.

@bugo likely changed his join date if that function was available to users early in the forum's existence, similar to how @hotdogPi and @TheHighwayMan3561 changed their usernames when the forum was going through a security transition.

IIRC, it used to say exactly that.

I have no idea why my that is my join date. I assume one of the admins put it there as some sort of a joke.

Or, if the founders want, we could always do an interview on the founding of AAroads as a bonus ep of the CA Route by Route podcast.

Voyager famously lost his shit at one point and deleted Alex's account (as well as that of a few others IIRC). I guess whoever restored Alex's access didn't know what the correct date was supposed to be so they just put January 1.

FWIW we are also planning on doing a bonus episode on the history of Gribblenation given it turned 25 this year.  We interview quite a few folks on the CA Route by Route podcast over the seasons on a myriad of subjects (many of general road interest).  I tend think it is a pretty solid format for something like talking about the history of a website.

So I guess that question on AAroads ought to be directed Alex, Scott N and the folks involved with the AAroads Wiki.

Who says the AARoads Forum is organized?

I give you the ABC, CBS, Fox ... thread as an example.

It used to be.  The correct answer to "When was the AARoads Forum organized" is "Before the secret war with Nimbya messed everything up".

Stuff like that and then some was going on in the ancient MTR days.  I really don't get why some hobby mainstreams think that was a golden age.

It was a golden age of sorts...before everyone thought it was a good idea to kill their unique websites and become a Facebook Group...

I find the fact that Facebook partially funds our still living website amusing and ironic.  I suspect we aren't the only standalone hobby page out there that takes advantage of social media platforms paying out engagement dollars.

I think there was some video someone hobbled together about him getting hit by a CFI truck while standing in a gore narrating one of his viatologist thingies...I may not laugh nowadays, but it was well done enough to still bring a smile to my face.

Some of us have carried on that tradition with at least a few members (though there's only one left).
