That is a beautiful picture.  I like the sunset in the horizon.  Was it taken with a drone?

I suspect so.  There's a chance it could have been taken from on top of the Watkins Building, but the angle isn't quite right.

I have plans to spend Thanksgiving week near Grenada, MS for my godson's wedding.   I hadn't planned to come up to Memphis....but with that much progress having been made, I suspect it might be open and worth dealing with holiday traffic to check out.

It'd pare down my already limited plans to add to my county count, but....

TDOT is in the finishing stages of the I-55/Crump Blvd. interchange revamp in Memphis.
A TDOT rep told me the interchange should fully open sometime this spring.
They've already put up signage -- including signs showing all FIVE U.S. shields on Crump Blvd.

Oh, good. Another thread on this project as it's apparently wrapping up.

^^ The arrows on that first sign are hideous (and I'd suspect that style is not MUTCD-compliant)...

It's definitely noncompliant. WTF were they thinking?  Plus, I'm surprised that there's no option lane at that split, assuming that the signage is correct in that regard.

The Ghostbuster

I have never seen a sign with five US Highway designations posted on it. The most I have seen is four US Highway designations on the same sign (on the US 12/14/18/151 Beltline Highway here in Madison between Exits 258 and 261).

May or may not be batticorn.

I also collect traffic lights, road signs, fans, and railroad crossing equipment.

Tried to post images -- but they're not embedding for some reason.
Link is below and if the photos show up, they'll be below that.

Well, at least their not clearview.   The gantries, themselves, appear identical to ones used in MA in the seventies.   Good to see, a standard truss gantry for a change, instead of ubiquitous mono tubes.

I cannot read it. I need my Clearview......

On a more serious note: Other than the licensing costs, why does everyone hate Clearview so much?
Let's build what we need as economically as possible.

Agreed, plus on a shared APL style sign panel (the use of which is also questionable here) the Exit Only arrow should be pointing upwards.

The Ghostbuster

I agree with bwana39. What's wrong with Clearview signage anyway? I don't mind it.

From what I recall hearing, a lot of the earlier Clearview signage wasn't designed super well, and had replaced some much better-looking signage in the process.
Plus, there's always a certain amount "it's different and I hate it because of that" and "it's new and I hate it because of that" among any large enough group of people.

Why is it hated?   Frankly it (the whole clearview deal) was unnecessary.   The original FHWA fonts were developed in the forties and early fifties.   The idea was to "standardize" signage, and fonts at that time.   The deviation away from that, was wrong.    Personally have viewed a lot of "modern" cluttered signage erected in Texas, since roughly 2000.  What existed prior, was frankly better.

Is the speed limit still 25 on the curve or was it raised back to 45?
I can drive 55 ONLY when it makes sense.

Because it's ugly, particularly the numerals, especially when the guidelines aren't followed (and they often aren't, because states that use Clearview tend to go all-in on Clearview even though it's only supposed to be used for destination legends).

Weren't Clearview's benefits were overstated when compared with Highway Gothic?

If this were North Carolina, those US shields would be on two rows versus what's shown.

That too, though it's not the first thing I think of when I see something like this.

Virginia and Illinois might be the only states that do Clearview well. Pennsylvania Clearview is on par with everyday Oklahoma

I can't say I've seen much complaints about Alabama's Clearview, though I'm only aware of maybe one sign in the entire state with a Clearview shield as well, so...
Same goes for Kentucky, in regards to their use of Clearview.

Another photo of the roundabout has been posted on Reddit.

I think that's the vantage from the Channel 3 Drive overpass over Riverside Drive (i.e. from the north).
