I rather like the bucking horse - the Wyoming shields have a nice balance between the state name, number, and bronco.  Without it, it looks like a yellow Montana shield.

that photo is from New York

The 2-digit 221 shield has always bugged me in this assembly

it's a less silly design than the 233, which looks like a bloated alien head, as opposed to a regular alien head.

well, another excuse to show a classic eagle shield.

time for some classic Oklahoma.  Not a very effective state route design.  I believe they changed to this in the early 50s, and left it behind in 1973 when the feds recommended circles.

It bugged me mostly because it's next to a wide shield.  However, I always thought the numbers were too crammed in when 3-digit numbers are stuffed into a 2-digit shield.  But if you're comparing to the eagle shield, no comparison -- that WAS a classic and I miss them along our highways.

Anyway, sorry this OR 66 shot includes a 3-digit 140 shield...  :poke:

stretching the rules here, as this is technically state route 140

yep, all wide shields.  bugger.

And from the other side of the river (I think):

agentsteel53

uh oh, can't post two consecutive US 206es, even if they're in different states.

the signs are indeed on the other side of the river, and still there.

well, one good rule breaking deserves another: here's a different US-209, from New York.

Hey, I already said I never bothered to check the rules.  But here are some more NY US Routes, and with that I'm off to bed.

always funny to see North US-4.  Completely correct in this case!

one more New York.  Oddly enough, I've only seen 104 and 219 of this shield shape, so never a true three-digit route that would fill the entire space on the shield.  In any case - if you're going to make a non-standard shield, give it character like this awesome example!
