US 270 in Seminole, Oklahoma: rerouted?
« on: May 27, 2018, 03:50:57 AM »

This is from the latest AASHTO Special Committee on U.S. Route Numbering agenda which can be found here:

https://route.transportation.org/wp-content/uploads/sites/50/2018/05/000_USRN-Agenda-and-List-of-Applications_-SM-Franklin-TN-2018v2.pdf

Quote
Action: Relocation of a U.S Route: Between SH-09 and SH-270A. Description: The route begins at the SH-09/SH-3E junction in Seminole and travels east on SH-09 to SH-270A/Harvey Rd., then south on SH-270A/Harvey Rd. for a total of 4.18 miles to join back with US-270.

Apparently US 270 now follows OK 9/Wrangler Blvd east of OK 3E to OK 270A/Harvey Road where it heads south to meet the old alignment at Broadway. It doesn't say, but I assume old US 270 will be renamed Business US 270 once this is complete.

Will anybody be in Seminole soon to give us a field report?

I think the point is to drop old US-270 from the system. There's not really any other reason to reroute US-270.

I'd say the point is to reduce traffic in downtown. I'll be going thru there next week and I'll check on this

Still signed on original route. Error reassurance sign on NB Harvey Rd N of US 270 says US 270A instead of SR 270A. It was installed in 1999
Traffic signal at US 270 & Main is so dim that I though it was not working as I was approaching it

Any more recent news on signage here?

All 270A signs have been replaced with US 270 signs. However, no 270 signs have been placed along SH 9. Also, going westbound on 270, you are not directed to go on 9. At the 270/9 jct there is a county road one could easily take instead.

Here's a thought...given how US 270 has been re-routed onto expressways around other nearby towns, I'm thinking this re-route using Harvey Rd could be temporary, and maybe they could be planning to at least build a new location roadway on the east side of town to create a continuous route, and eliminate the two 90-degree turns that the current re-route has.

That would mean that OkDOT would have to spend money on something, though.

All sign updates are complete. Portion of 3E concurrent with 270 has also been relocated to SH9. Boren street no longer is numbered south of 9.

Many thanks for the info from the ground.
Assuming that:
- Broadway west of Harvey is also unnumbered.
- OK 270A is no longer signed.
- OK 3E takes Milt Phillips along with US377 & OK99
Yes?
