How long Do you like Summer To Last?
« on: July 17, 2018, 08:23:25 PM »

You were warned (I think) this would be coming from me.

Please post how long you like your summer to last if you could control nature.

For me: Maybe 4 weeks as I like the cold a lot more than the warmth, but the 4 weeks allows for a nice hiking/driving season.

If you like the cold a lot less, why are you shortening summer?

In typical fashion, "what's summer?" will probably get the most votes, just because.

I think of "summer" as being the part of the year where morning temperatures are consistently in about the mid-60s or warmer, which is usually about 5 months (roughly May to October). If I had my way, I'd probably knock that down just a tad to maybe 3˝ or 4 months.

Wouldn't mind having the upper 50s in the AM and low 80s in the afternoon last into November

If it could be 90 and snowing, I'd be happy.

Year round would work for me-well, maybe with a more spring or fall like period around Christmas time.

Which is basically what you already have, by my standards.  :-D

Nah, not here-not far enough south. Yeah, I don't get the boatloads of snow you get, but it gets pretty cold here for a few months. Low single digits (F) are not out of the realm of possibility in any given year.

Every winter I say the same thing. If it's going to be this bloody cold at least we could have some snow to make snow balls with. But, we just don't get that on a regular basis.

80 degree lows, 100+ degree highs, then work outside for a living with a heat index of of 115+....one day of that is way too long for me.

Finally after 11 days in Sherwood, we finally didn't hit 90 today (89). Long time as Portland averages 13 days in a year.

Portland averages 13 days in a year.

Interesting, because most places average around 365.25

I'd rather spring, summer and fall all cease to exist.

Same here, although I'd say more centered around New Year's; I'd also specify that it be a reasonable spring/fall temperature, not what passes for those seasons around here; maybe 65*F (18*C) during the day and 50*F (10*C) at night.

I despise the heat. I'd love eternal winter. The AC in my house sucks, especially during the summer, and I can't really do anything about it. Turns out using an AC unit will cause the breaker to trip in my house, cutting off power to exclusively my room and the one below me, which nobody uses. This means I lose whatever I'm working on.

For some reason, I find it far more comfortable (albeit still not that comfortable to begin with) to be outside in 90 degree heat than be in my 80 degree room in the summer. Maybe it's because the air is still and motionless when indoors.
