In lieu of extending NJ 55, would it be possible/practical to look at possibly widening NJ 47 to four lanes?

NJDOT has shown no interest in doing so. There's been bridge widenings completed or planned along 47, and none are widened to accommodate a future expansion to 4 lanes.

Look how long its taking to widen US 206 in Hillsborough.  Thats only two miles.

Point is it probably won't be until 2050 to do that.  Whether widen Route 47 or build a new freeway, if they start now planning, it would be that long of a process between that and actually build.

I'm sure Mikkie could speed it up, but there are other pressing issues she has to deal with right now.
Every day is a winding road, you just got to get used to it.

This sign along US 40 (this is one of many) approaching the NJ Turnpike from Pilsesgrove and Woodstown.  It is obviously referring to the NJ Turnpike, that ends at the Delaware Memorial Bridge.  However from the way its stated, makes it sound like the Delaware Memorial Bridge leads to the SB NJ Turnpike.

For years no reference to the NJ Turnpike south of the Exit 1 toll was made.  It was solely US 40 and lately (or in the past three decades anyway) signs have been popping up along Routes 40 & 140 that the Turnpike is south of Route 140.  Even signs on NJ 140 at I-295 SB reference the Turnpike where I-295 only concurs a few hundred feet of the toll road.

Could this be that NJDOT now is really considering the Delaware Turnpike from the New Jersey Turnpike as a continuous route?  I only assumed for my caption of the photo that its saying follow the bridge reference to be on the turnpike south, because I am speculating.

Technically, the Turnpike ends at the U.S. 130/Route 49 overpass (short of the bridge and "south" of this location), but I am sure John Q. Motorist won't give a hoot about that.  Never understood why that signing is there.

Half the reason 55 and 47 are considered inadequate is because we bulldozed half the rail-based alternative to reduce the car traffic. But also, there's about zero chance any part of 55 gets built in the next 55 years. State has far more pressing matters to deal with on existing roads.

Yeah like getting US 206 widened which is been a slow process.  It's been on the books for decades and when they start construction they work at snails pace or even stop and go on hiatus like the current project and that dont include the NS Overpass in Hillsborough replacement as who knows when that will be.
