That's a shame! The caps that have been added over existing freeways elsewhere do look nice. Building this cap would have made Interstate 35 in Austin feel like less of a barrier between neighborhoods, which I believe is the intention of each freeway cap already constructed.

Now I'm wondering whether the recission of funds for the caps would motivate opponents of the project to argue that since funding for such will be displaced onto the local public at the expense of locals, this invalidates the agreement that was struck to approve the project; and thusly reconsideration of the Rethink35 concept of "Boulevard 35" + rerouting I-35 via TX 330 and Toll 45 is in order via yet another lawsuit to cease construction.

At least the city will continue to do the cap project, which is progress at its finest, and a good way to tell Washington "fuck you, I don't need your money anyway."
