Decided to start a new thread about major NS road projects

One of them got me excited: the NS Highway 107 Extension or the Highway 107 Sackville-Bedford-Burnside Connector.

Basically, it's going to be a 4-lane freeway extension for nine kilometers with interchanges at Highway 102, a future interchange near Anderson Lake, and a split diamond that connects to Burnside Drive, Akerley Boulevard, and future Burnside expansions.

I think Nova Scotia should convert its exit numbers from sequential to kilometer-based, like the rest of Canada.

Newfoundland-and-Labrador have sequential exit numbering system too.

In fact, Nova Scotia have a particular system; on Hwys 101 and 103, km-markers start from zero at western terminals, in Yarmouth, while exit numbers start from 1 at eastern terminals, in Halifax for the 103, and in Bedford for the 101.

But I'm with you on that point; they should convert their system.

I have a couple of questions:

1. Is NS still considering Route 113?

2. Any plans on linking 101 and 103?

The problem seems to be the space available to make ramps that allow access in all directions. I did Bedford Bypass a couple of times, and there's not so much room to build ramps because the NS-102/NS-101 interchange is close, the actual ramps of this interchange already have sharp curves, and the area is much mountainous. It's sure that on a map, it looks more logic to connect the NS-107 extension with the Bedford Bypass, but it won't be physically possible, IMHO.

It does seem like somewhat of a missed opportunity to connect 107 directly to Highway 101 at the Bedford By-pass interchange.  The Bedford By-pass interchange at Highway 102 isn't a great in my opinion.  But, it would probably cost a lot do something with that interchange.

This new exit will help so much in the area; it will divert Waterville Michelin Tire plant truck traffic from Trunk 1, that is very rough around NS-101's exit 14, as well as it will give some breathe to people living along the Trunk 1.

Digging through Nova Scotia's 2023-2024 Five-Year Highway Improvement plan, they are investing more than $583 million toward six new major
construction projects over seven years. The projects include:

• Highway 103 Argyle Interchange (Exit 32 and 32A) - replacing three at-grade intersections with an interchange at Exit 32 (https://novascotia.ca/tran/highways/highway-103-argyle-interchange.pdf)
• Highway 103 Exit 6 to Exit 7 and Exit 7 to Exit 8 Twinning - two separate projects to twin the section between the four-lane sections
• Highway 104 Taylors Road to Paqtnkek - Twinning (continuation of twinning Highway 104 east of Antigonish)
• Highway 107 Burnside to west of Loon Lake -Twinning
• Tancook Ferry Infrastructure Development

This investment also includes access improvements for non twinned 100-series
highways. That work involves improving intersections, adding passing lanes, and
turning lanes as well as roundabouts.
