The western part of the beltway (between Acceso Oeste and Acceso Norte) opened in 1982.

The remainder of the beltway was started under the Kirchner government in 2011 as the 'Autopista Presidente Perón'. The project was continued under the Macri government, but was renamed the 'Camino Parque del Buen Ayre'. It seems that the name has now been reverted to Perón again.

The 7 kilometer segment between Virrey del Pino and Tristán Suárez has recently opened to traffic: 18 October 2021: https://elnacionaldematanza.com.ar/2021/10/20/virrey-del-pino-habilitaron-un-tramo-de-la-autopista-peron/

A beautiful new freeway in 2021 ... without hard shoulders?!

I bump this thread with that GSV of Highway-40, where the landscape have some more or less similarities with Route 66 in the west.

If anyone's interested, here's TM's map of the system (minus a few unsigned routes): https://travelmapping.net/user/mapview.php?rg=ARG

I accept and respect your identity as long as it's not dumb shit like "identifying as a vaccinated attack helicopter".

I bring back this thread from the dead, but seem then Mendoza will get a southern bypass where Route 7 will probably be rerouted.  However the northern end of the bypass, the trumpet interchange is very compacted as shown on Bing maps and Google maps.

A bit more about the Mendoza bypass, it ends at the western multiplex of Route 7/Route 40 where a former trumpet interchange is converted into a cloverleaf interchange.

Time to bring back that thread from the dead again.  :poke:

Bing Maps, OpenStreemap, Google maps show the new Hwy-7 alignment south of Mendoza as open but where it reach the original route to the east with a trumpet interchange is a bit weird. An satellite picture is worth a thousand words.

Nice find. It opened on 3 October 2025 according to this press release:

https://prensa.mendoza.gob.ar/se-habilito-la-variante-palmira-una-obra-clave-para-la-seguridad-vial-y-la-conectividad/

It's a 36.5 km four lane highway.

A dormant project to create a tunnel between Argentina and Chile might be revived:

I saw that video posted on Skyscraperpage forums posted in 2016 about the Autopista Buenos Aires-La Plata.

It could be interesting to see if there was some corrections and improvements on that freeway after a decade.

This video is fascinating and mesmerizing. I like that the recorder just rawdogged it and didn't overlay some hype music. An interesting mix of MUTCD and international signage as well. Take away all the Spanish, and it looks indistinguishable from much of North Texas and Oklahoma. (Or maybe it's a glimpse into the future.)
