Quote from: Max Rockatansky on May 29, 2026, 09:24:07 PMFWIW the Canadiens haven't been consistently a top performing team since the early 1990s.  A semifinals appearance is still forward progress over a first round loss last year and missing the playoffs for three years prior to that.

Also, I'm amused at the irony in the previous reply.  I distinctly recall a time during which claims that the NHL favored the Maple Leafs and Canadians was a common occurrence.
Almost like Canadian teams SHOULD be favored...

Why an advantage though?  In the other sports the Canadian teams have been competitive despite having way of a footprint than what they got in the NHL.  The Raptors won an NBA title recently and the Blue Jays got pretty close to a World Series title last year.

Because it's OUR sport. Not yours.

Meh, that's a pretty lame.  None of the Americans to my knowledge said anything similar about Basketball when the Raptors got a title.

FWIW when I was a kid, the Red Wings were in the so-called "Dead Wings era."  Those bad times between Stanley Cups for the Red Wings are still longer than what you are seeing with the Canadians now.

Yeah, because it's mostly an American league.

The Habs have gone to the golf club thanks to the Hurricanes.

1995hoo

And it remains the case that a US team has won the Grey Cup more recently than a Canadian team has won the Stanley Cup.

There haven't been any US-based CFL teams since 1995.
