1.  Easier to wash.  Just take the blanket-y part out from the duvet cover, and wash the cover.  No need to wash the fluffy part every time.

2.  Because of the above, every guest gets a freshly washed duvet every time.  Other hotels might only wash the sheets every time but not the blankets;  this way, everything is clean for every guest:  the fluffy part stayed clean because it was protected by the duvet cover, and the cover itself gets washed every time.

3.  Because they are, for lack of a better term, puffier, and because they're always freshly laundered, the bed looks both cleaner and more luxurious.  And looks matter to people.

For what it's worth, I prefer the "new way" of doing it.  But that's mainly just because I'm skinny, so I get cold easily, and hotels often have the a/c unit blowing right at me, so I appreciate having a big ole honkin' blanket on me.  Getting too hot is not a thing for me.

Your faith that housekeeping washes the bedspread cover for each new guest is admirable.

My mother was a hotel maid when she was in college.  For my whole life, whenever we stayed in a hotel, the first thing she would do was throw the bedspreads on the floor.

Or maybe descended somewhat.

The beltway trail around Lone Mountain has milemarkers. ...Two sets of them, so the mile markers are different going CW or CCW.

Each of the milemarkers has a Clark County logo on it.

...Part of the Lone Mountain trail is literally within view of CC-215.

They know how milemarkers are supposed to work.

Reassurance markers on trails is about the most inconsistent thing you'll find in the world of signage.  The only agency that does a sort of okay job of it is the National Park Service.  But that generally only applies if you are the most popular of trails.

Somehow, no matter when I begin making "breakfast" (is it still breakfast if I'm eating after 1:00?) relative to when I start my laundry on Sunday, the wash load will always finish right when I'm in the middle of making it, seemingly without fail.

Quote from: Scott5114 on June 15, 2026, 04:04:07 AMWhen you have a YouTube playlist going and it plays a recommended video instead of the next one on the list.

When you watch a video, on a web site or streaming platform, and near the end it shrinks the video or overlays it with suggestions.

Some of them don't have an option to turn that off.  What are you supposed to do if you want to see the entire video or program, including the closing credits?  Some systems have a button to watch the credits, but if you miss some of it and rewind, it goes back to the suggestions and the watch credits button again, again blocking the end.  At a minimum, if I hit the button and rewind, it should show the ending without the overlay the second time, as I've already expressed more interest in the credits than in the suggestions.

Also, why does streaming television ask for ratings?  If I watch an entire series, and then watch it again a year or two later, you can guess that I liked it.  If I watch for 10 minutes, stop, and never go back to it, consider that a thumbs-down.  If you have to ask, you're probably too stupid to be giving suggestions.

The lack of information on sporting event live TV streams. I would prefer a visual confirmation for every foul, call, substitution, free throw, interception, timeout, change in possession, punt, etc. Not just the score, time remaining, and some ancillary information. I feel like it would make following along a lot easier by cutting out the guesswork if you happen to miss something.

You would have hated watching sports before the mid-90s or so, when they didn't even show the score and the time remaining. (Also, visual confirmation for free throws, interceptions, and punts? Isn't the visual confirmation the part where you watch it happen in the game?)

Agreed. I was just on YouTube watching the championship game between Green Bay and Dallas in 1965 at the Cotton Bowl.
