Something I found to be a minor thing that "pleased me" was with my new shed.  The package came with about an extra dozen spare bolts, screws and washers in each hardware bag.  I appreciate whoever designed the packing knowing that many pieces would go missing during the build.  I can fix a lot of small things (including the shed) with all the spares that were left.

I'm not sure I follow. Are you arguing that, for example, if you're sorting music by band name, everything by the Beatles should be alphabetized under "T"?

Why?

Think about how many band names start with "The." You'd overwhelm your index, or your alphabetical listing, with "The" (consider if you had everything by the Beatles, the Rolling Stones, the Who, etc.). There's a practical reason why it's always been customary in a book index or a library catalog to ignore articles at the beginning of names. People aren't "forgetting" them. They're following the customary rule that you disregard them.

(I find it exceptionally annoying how iTunes provides a sorting field, so that you can alphabetize properly by last name such that Bruce Springsteen, for example, appears under "S," but then the Music app on an iPhone seems to ignore the sorting field and alphabetizes by first name, which pretty much everybody learns in first or second grade is not the proper way to do it.)

When I was putting the drawers in my computer desk for the first time, I accidentally broke one of the drawer glides. I called the company to get a replacement, which they sent me for free. But instead of sending me one drawer glide, for some reason, they could only send me the entire right side of the desk with three glides pre-attached. Of course, I'd already assembled the desk itself before I broke the glide, so I had to go through the extra effort to remove one of the glides from the right-side piece and attach it to the already-assembled-desk's right-side piece.

Then I was left with the right side of a desk with two drawer glides which I didn't have the other side of the glides for. It sat in my office for like a year while I tried to decide if there was anything I could do with it (now that I think about it, I guess I could have figured out a way to attach something to it to make it a table or wall shelf or something). Eventually I got tired of looking at it and just threw it away. What a waste of time and effort for everyone involved!

FWIW, this seems to be how things are alphabetized in Spanish.  Every atlas I've looked at, whether paper or online, has listed all placenames starting with El together under E, all placenames starting with La together under L, etc.

Well, technically, I suppose that's how an American atlas would alphabetize Spanish-origin place names too.

But you got the glide out of it.

Sure. But if they'd just sent me the glide alone they would have spent considerably less on shipping, and I would have had about 25% as much work to do. It was...[drumroll]...a minor thing that bothered me.

It bothers me very much that (in Calculus) some mathematicians use the 'Prime' symbol to denote derivatives.  Using the prime symbol needs to be an academic offense.  I don't even know where or how the prime symbol even came about.

In engineering classes, ẋ and ẍ stood in for dx/dt and d²x/dt².

The flag in my avatar (which has been my avatar for a year and I am just too lazy to bother changing it month to month) is the disability pride flag, featuring a muted red for physical disabilities, gold for neurodiversity, white for invisible disabilities, blue for psychological disabilities, green for sensory disabilities, and the grey-black background representing mourning for victims of violence and abuse.

And, see, I just figured you were an artistic fellow and developed your own avatar based on the standard gay pride rainbow.  There was a period of time when a lot of forum members were changing their avatars to include subtle gay pride messaging, so I assumed yours was one such avatar.  I had no clue until today that it was actually an existing flag that you used, nor that it meant something else.

There are so many flags and I don't come across them often day to day.  That being the case I'm usually lost on what most of flags actually mean.  I'm sure there has to be a reference chart out there somewhere, I've just never looked for one.
