Route A ends at route B, and vice-versa.
« on: March 25, 2020, 10:53:00 AM »

This is a thread about routes that have an end at a route that began or ended at the former route (route A ends at route B, route B ends at route A). They can be state routes, county routes, U.S. highways, or Interstates. This does not count routes that transform into a different route along the same ROW (like I-76 and NJ 42), but if two routes end at the same point it does.

PA 26 ends at PA 150, which started at PA 26 ~20 miles before.
PA 997 ends at PA 233, which had started at PA 997 ~50 miles before.
I-64 ends at I-664 and I-264, the former of which begun at I-64 ~20 miles before.

DE 141 starts in a concurrency with US 202 (both begin at US 13), then ends at US 202 north of Wilmington as it becomes DE 261.
Several coastal loops in CT with US 1 (CT 130, CT 162, CT 142, CT 146, CT 213, CT 215, US 1A)
In the past, CT/RI 14 began and ended at US 6 (until US 6 was rerouted onto the Willimantic bypass)

PA 26 isn't a valid example...PA 150 ends at PA 26 at it's south junction, not the other way around.

That is what I had meant by that--I guess it might be hard to read?

DE 141 starts in a concurrency with US 202 (both begin at US 13), then ends at US 202 north of Wilmington as it becomes DE 261.
Several coastal loops in CT with US 1 (CT 130, CT 162, CT 142, CT 146, CT 213, CT 215, US 1A)

US 202 starts along the concurrency with 141, but 141 actually extends further south.

PA 965 starts and ends at US 62 (Mercer & Venango Counties)
PA 127 also starts and ends at US 62 (Forest and Warren Counties)
PA 59 starts and ends at US 6 (Warren and McKean Counties)
PA 462 starts and ends at US 30, but that's because PA 462 is a former routing of US 30 (York and Lancaster Counties)
PA 152 starts and ends at PA 309 (Montgomery and Bucks Counties)

There are a few that are close:
PA 394 starts and almost ends at PA 233 in Adams County
PA 262 starts near and ends near PA 382 in York County
PA 901 starts near and ends at PA 61 in Schuylkill and Northumberland Counties.
PA 902 starts near and ends at US 209 in Carbon County
PA 183 starts at and ends near PA 61 in Schuylkill and Berks Counties

901 ends at 183, 183 ends at 61, and 902 ends at 443.

I think the thread title is “Route A ends at Route B at one endpoint, and vice versa at the other” rather than one route that has both endpoints at the same route.

MN 27 ends at MN 28 outside Browns Valley. They meet again outside Little Falls, where they duplex into town and MN 28 quietly disappears as MN 27 continues east.

The southern segment of PA 29 ends at PA 309. PA 309 ends at an intersection with the northern segment of PA 29.
Connecticut Route 53 splits into Connecticut Route 37 and 39.
PA 181 begins at the intersection of Bus. 83 and US 30, and Bus. 83 ends at the junction with I-83.

US 158 has its western terminus at US 64, and both routes terminate at each other on the eastern end

Makes me wonder why 158 isn't US 164...

Not to mention, the fact it doesn't even touch US-58. It only intersects US-258.

In California, Route 18 begins at Route 138 east of Palmdale, while Route 138 ends at Route 18 in Crestline.

I think this is what the OP means; hopefully it's a little more clear. CT 37/39/53 is not an example of this.

M-72's western end is at M-22 in Empire. M-22's "northern" end is at M-72 in Traverse City (M-22 bends around the Leelanau Peninsula).

I would think stuff like what NY 3A does here would also be in the "no" category.

I was trying to think of what to call the shape that would need to be formed, but just drawing it out is much easier. Thank you!

It's the right idea, it just doesn't work because NY 3 doesn't have an endpoint in the area. We would just need NY 3A to replace NY 3 in one direction or the other so that both routes would have an endpoint at the other.

Except that was exactly the reason I mentioned it - there have been several examples of people posting "Route A ends at Route B at both ends, and Route B ends at Routes C and D" in this thread already.

I think I have the wrong concept here but it seems like the title was different when I made this post.

I-385 and US-276 in Greenville and Mauldin, SC.

A number of routes qualify by ending at the same point as a loop route which branches off earlier:
I-64 and I-664 in Hampton & Bowers Hill, VA
US-360 and VA-360 in Scottburg and Danville, VA
US-278 and US-278 BUS in Hilton Head, SC
