My recent cardiac incident/pulmonary embolism

On Tuesday morning, I suffered a cardiac incident and a pulmonary embolism (blood clot in the lungs) and had to go to the hospital. They said I was very close to either a heart attack or a stroke.

I have been very weak since then and have laid down in bed for days.

Those are scary.  About 5 years ago, it turns out I was walking around with one and a DVT. It was triggered by a flight.  The night after I got to Indy, I was at a party and all of a sudden I felt like I couldn't breathe.  I couldn't walk more than 50 feet without being totally winded.  I thought I was getting sick and toughed it out till I got home, and thought it was pneumonia.  After a couple days in the hospital when my O2 got down to 89%, the doctors treated me with antibiotics and steroids, but it did nothing.  After 3 trips to the doctor, I said forget it and drove myself to the ER.  I was admitted, and went into surgery the next day, and woke up in the ICU 10 days later.  Lucky I wasn't a goner.  Glad you're ok.

I had a DVT years ago but it didn't make it to my lungs.  I thought the "charley horse" in my leg would eventually go away and I didn't get it tested against the suspicion of my doctor and my wife asking me to do so.  After a couple of weeks of leg pain and swelling I finally relented and they sent me over to have an ultrasound.  The tech's eyes as she looked at the screen said it all and she told me that I needed to get over to the hospital right away.  Good times.
