Quote from: Molandfreak on June 04, 2025, 02:11:13 PMWhat is the purpose of the 70 mph zone in Medora?

I heard an interview with a DOT official, parts of the interstate in the Medora area aren't safe going 80 or higher, so they reduced it to 70 to make sure people slow down enough to safely drive the curves.

It's been a couple of months. How have people been behaving (or lack thereof lol  :pan: ) with the new 80mph Interstate default speed limit? Has there been any noticeable increases/decreases in crashes or 85th percentile speeds? How is enforcement, both with the 80 zones and the new 70 drops? Is "everyone" going 90-95+

Just curious... pardon my speed limit obsession lol  :hyper:
I can drive 55 ONLY when it makes sense.

I took I-94 between Fargo and the Driscoll exit last month so this is just my experience. Probably the majority of vehicles including me were going 80mph, but I passed plenty of vehicles that were still going slightly under the limit. To be fair, even when the limit was 75 plenty of people would go slower. I don't recall seeing any more cops on the road than usual. The new speed zones around Valley City and Jamestown are pretty annoying and largely weren't obeyed fully, I probably went 73 through them and was getting passed.

NDDOT has recommended three alternatives from the I-94 Midway Grant Marsh Bridge Engineering & Feasibility study.

ME-8 (Mainline expansion option with a flyover)- replaces the existing bridge with two new three-lane bridges. The WB I-94 ramp to I-194 EB moves to the right with a flyover and adds a CD system to EB I-94 & I-194 to reduce weaving.
ME-9 (Mainline expansion option with a loop ramp)- replaces the existing bridge with two new three-lane bridges. The WB I-94 ramp to I-194 EB moves to the right with a new larger loop ramp and adds a CD system to EB I-94 to reduce weaving.
CD-1 (Collector Distributer option)- replaces the existing bridge with three new bridges (one for I-94 WB CD lanes, one for EB I-94 CD lanes, and one for I-94 through traffic). The WB I-94 ramp to I-194 EB moves to the right with a flyover and adds a CD system to EB I-194 to reduce weaving. The CD lanes will go from the Main Street interchange to the Divide Avenue interchange on a 2-2-2-2 lane configuration.

CD-1 is the most expensive of the three options, but I love the idea of through traffic being separated from the traffic between Bismarck/Mandan. The extra lanes would also make a difference during road construction or temporary closures due to accidents.  Which has been fairly regular over the last few years.
