The Hawaii sign was sneakily wretched. These are just wretched.

Okay, yeah, holy shit; that takes the cake, hands down. Nothing but the best for North Carolina, I see.

I've got to admit, I lowkey kind of like it.

Quote from: El-Caz on January 06, 2026, 06:05:05 PMI understand that these are temporary construction zone signs, but they look absolutely awful and have been up since the beginning of 2019, even though the I-440/Western Blvd. interchange reconstruction in Raleigh is pretty much complete, and that detour doesn't exist anymore. Like, I don't know how this happens; you can literally buy pre-designed, properly-specked shields online for less than $40, and all you have to do is specify a route number.

Typical NC Interstate shields in construction zones. There was an I-95 one near Rocky Mount and an I-85 one near Henderson a few years back.

Yes, those are quite frequently used in North Carolina.

Quote from: LilianaUwU on January 12, 2026, 05:50:50 PMNC is a failed state.

Pretending it isn't a third-world country.

I just wonder if those funky NC interstate temporary detour signs are some sort of state standard.

Missouri signs detours all on one panel with individual "DETOUR," directional banners, route markers, and arrows all attached to a single sign. I'd guess that's some sort of state standard. Since those NC signs are so common, I wonder if they aren't spec'ed somewhere.

I'd also like to object to the sign next to it, which suggests taking the cloverleaf at triple the actual advisory speed.

This could've went in the Department of Redundancy Department thread, but I completely understand why you posted it here. Like seriously, what the hell is the point of that?!

It's wrong in multiple ways, since it's actually on 17 north, 92 east, and 192 east. It replaced this, which was much less wrong.

Luckily, this nasty has since been replaced. It's utterly disgusting, though.

Another year, another ODOT special:

This is on the recently rebuilt section of I-244/US 75. This sign is such a shame because the rest of the signs in the area look so good.

It makes it really obvious that the letters were stuck down one at a time, rather than laying them all out to fit the space, and then sticking them down. Reminds me of the first coin ever minted by the US mint in 1793, where it looks like the engraver did the same sort of thing, and ran out of space:

ClassicHasClass

Oh, I agree that they definitely did that and put it in the wrong spot on the sign, but nevertheless they still didn't get the letters lined up, and even the exit number in the top tab is off-kilter (and the wrong font).

Okay, so posting a sign from the parking lot of a grocery store is probably cheating, but.

Reserved parking is $$250 to $1000. But it's fine if used by others.

I didn't look at this that closely back when you posted, but that appears to be an actual road sign font...except it's the one Switzerland used to use, not the US.

It's like they don't want it displayed correctly or something.
