I prefer to read that as meaning NCDOT just has a big storehouse full of Interstates, and every so often they bring one out and slap it down.

A rhetorical question -- something I have been wondering about since I lived there in the 1970s.

Four U.S. states have the word "New" in their names.
They are:
- New Hampshire
- New Jersey
- New Mexico
- New York

The Spanish established the colony of Santa Fe de Nuevo Méjico in 1598.  The name if I recall correctly had something to do with the Seven Cities of Gold which were then rumored to be nearby.  The name stuck through the Mexican and American periods.
