An alignment chart fit for @Rothman — Olive Garden has come up as an option to fill the final "expensive and bad" position, but it looks like it's not going to win.  :-D

What if I told you, I don't hate Golden Corral?

I think it's been a decade since I've last been to one. All I remember that the food tasted like nothing. I imagine it's what the Sims go through when they eat.

I just bought a Sony Walkman MP3 player and was trying to get it to work through my car's (2015 Avalon) USB jack but haven't figured out how to get it to work.

I was expecting it to be like plugging in an iPod to the Pioneer stereo in my old car.

Yes, I can use the AUX cord, but I would prefer to be able to control the music through the car's radio.

I used to go to Golden Corral a lot when I was single, for the one big meal of the day.  But now there isn't one close, and I've changed my attitude about eating.  (Old Country Buffet was overpriced, especially after they started charging for drinks.)  I do miss it, though.

I think they went downhill when they stopped offering table service.

Also having worked in the industry, I learned early that the most expensive food cost part of a cup of SODA is the cup.

I mean, there's also the principle of not liking the idea of food waste.  Or waste in general.  I'm the type of person to hold onto something that I have no more use for because I can't stand the waste of throwing out something that's still perfectly good.  Heck, I even tried to pass on a mouse that was failing because I didn't have anything else to use the batteries with, and I didn't want to wait until the batteries naturally died (and now I have a similar problem with another mouse; clicker got so unreliable that I had to replace it, but the batteries are still good).

If one consumes too much food it becomes "excessive waste" eventually.

I don't like food waste either, but I don't dislike it to the point at which I'll make myself uncomfortable just to clear a plate.

Regarding your mouse topic, my sister is a little bit of a hoarder. (Not calling you one, just reminded me of this story.) She was supposed to move across the country and so my wife and I were trying to help her go through things and pack. She's a big crafter and I managed to get that room as my assignment. She had pieces of felt that had shapes cut out of them that she didn't want me to throw away, and preferred that I donated instead. To me, that felt like she just has a misguided view of "value". Obviously she values it, otherwise she wouldn't have thrown it away. But to think someone else might value it to the point where they saw it sitting on a shelf at Goodwill/ARC and would actually want it? And it was at that point I understood why she hoards.

Lately, I've been having my mother order a meal at a restaurant, then I say the phrase "split plate". This splits the meal into smaller portions, and there may be a reasonable "split plate charge". This has also addressed the annoyance of the large food portions becoming ignored leftovers that get thrown out.

On Tuesday morning, I attend a Toastmasters meeting at a local restaurant, and almost always order breakfast to help cover the cost of the room. Usually, it has been scrambled eggs, sausage, and pancakes, however, I take the pancakes home for my mother after the meeting. Occasionally, I have the breakfast quesadilla which I split into thirds... which becomes my breakfast, lunch, and dinner respectively.

I agree with the goals of "Reduce, Reuse, Recycle". Parts from older computers are stored and often either reused or given away to friends for their projects. I don't have the box of cables, but instead have two of these Plastic Drawer Storage Organizer Rolling Cart to store the Ethernet/USB cables and some el-cheapo plastic toolboxes from Harbor Freight to store the various power cords, HDMI cables, and DisplayPort cables that inevitably get included. Yes, they are labeled.

Even older computers can be repurposed as Linux boxes. About fifteen years ago, I turned a junked computer from work (no memory, no hard drive) into a web server with ISPConfig installed to build test sites and learn web programming. Now, that web site sits as a virtualized instance.

There is, however, a point where one has to decide if the effort to keep a device running is outweighed by a new product. My 10yo color duplexing printer on my network has started to make a clicking noise. I'm not going to bother trying to fix it. Maybe, in a year's time, it breaks and I get a new printed. I also have a non-duplexing B&W printer as a backup. Also, in looking at the MiniPCs and laptops that are out there now, there are some pretty good computers that fulfil non-gaming needs at a not-too-expensive price. I recently purchased a laptop with a decent processor, 512GB of SSD storage and 16GB of memory for under $500, and then added 16GB more memory "just because". It fulfils my on-the-go needs including PowerPoint presentations.

I should also note that about two years ago, I upgraded from a i7-4790K processor to a i9-13900K processor, and benefitted from the improvement. That i7-4790k was hooked up to an office TV and was used for backups, displaying weather maps, and physical media needs. However, it failed a few months later, and I build a new system with a motherboard/processor/memory combo from Microcenter, but recycled the drives.

Just taking it home and eating it as leftovers another day means it's not being wasted at all, though.

I tried to plug my iPod Classic into my aftermarket car stereo a while back for the first time (of course, I used the AUX cord). I got a message telling me to get certain software. When I tried to look for it, I found out they didn't make it anymore.

I would like to be the sort of person who efficiently utilizes leftovers, but for most foods I find them unappetizing. So functionally the options are eat it in the restaurant, throw it in the trash, or refrigerate it for a week and then throw it away.

A lot of the time when I go out for dinner it's before a show, and I am not going to have a place to refrigerate the leftovers for 3-4 hours and I don't really want to lug a box of leftovers to the theater with me, so it's garbage.

One of the few perks of living in the cold part of the country is that in winter your car makes a perfectly acceptable fridge.

It would have to be pretty hot in the car for me not to hold onto 3-4 hour old leftovers.
