If you find any of the MediaNews Group newspapers useful, it looks like each one is offering a Cyber Monday deal, 2 years of full digital access for $2.  There are several big-city papers on that list; I like the San Jose Mercury News just for Bay Area sports coverage including Jon Wilner's college football writing, and that's the right price.

I don't need subscriptions all over the place, but if the New York Times comes up with a good Cyber Monday deal ("All Access" includes The Athletic and Wirecutter) I could go for that.

Were it not for Twitter/X, The Washington Post would be the greatest example of a corporate self-immolation this century. 50% of the country already didn't trust it for not really any good reason, but then they managed to alienate the 50% of people who still did.

Yet despite its obvious decline, the Post is still light-years better than the other local paper, the Washington Times.

From what I've heard, there's a difference between the UK version of The Guardian and the international version, with the international version being better.

Her laundry: hang 90% of the shirts and blouses up, do not use the drier. And hang-dry some of the pants, but not all. Also, you need three different weird hangers for three specific items, or they'll fall off the hangers and she'll be mad. Repeat weekly. Also, wet long sleeves are deceptively annoying...ha ha.

Mine: wash and dry all of it; except for hang drying sweatshirts, and once a year, a baseball cap, and maybe 3-5 neckties.

I hate waiting around for the washer and drier at the last minute due to frequent travel plans, so I've tasked myself with this for the last 15 years. Thankfully, the cycles are pretty easy to remember because they're nearly the same for all 3-4 loads (hint, never wash pants on warm/hot if you ever wish to eat or sit).

Scott5114

Her laundry: still in the dryer three days after the cycle ended, when mine is wet

Nonsense, I have more polishes, waxes, and detergents for our cars than for myself. Eh...maybe it's a push.

(Seriously, don't repeatedly use dish soap on cars unless someone is about to contact the authorities on your vehicular mayhem.)

The comPost was committing seppuku even back in my high school days in Alexandria.  It has gone downhill like an autocide attempt since then.

The comPost is several parsecs outside of Betelgeuse, not far from Rigel. Hasn't yet tried for the Small Magellanic Cloud, fortunately.

Since I can't seem to find the Roadgeek Dreams thread I'll just post this here...

Last night I had a dream that I was on some narrow two lane valley farm road between two mountain ranges.  I was heading northbound (my wife was a passenger) and for whatever reason there was a bunch of large birds (species unknown but they were a mix of dead and alive) in my lane.  My wife keeps yelling about the poor birds and how I should to stop to help them (reasons unknown).

After dodging the birds I hit a somewhat sharp flat right curve and experience severe under steer (I'm in my 2024 Corolla) despite taking it at 25 MPH.  I go across the southbound lane into a recently cleared farm plot.  I floor the gas to not get stuck in the soft dirt and start drifting my car back towards the road.

As I'm approaching the roadway three cars appear in the southbound lanes.  I decide to thread the needle and slide between them into the northbound lanes so I don't get stuck.  As I'm about to hit the asphalt between two of the cars I woke up.

Since the 2nd grade I've been having some derivative of this dream.  I always wake up before the collision.  The other variations generally include some facet of a dead brake pedal.

The infamous Doot Doot (6 7) song talks about bipping down the highway. Turns out we on the forum have been doing this before it was cool.

I really hope this owl survived Japan's most recent earthquake;

Given that the photo is from 2007, I suspect that owl's long since died of natural causes.
May or may not be batticorn.

I also collect traffic lights, road signs, fans, and railroad crossing equipment.

I can see that. But it still has me worrying about the other animals in that zoo. When the Northeastern Flash Flood of July 2023 hit Bear Mountain State Park, I later started thinking of the condition of the animals at the Bear Mountain Zoo.
