One of my dogs was acting up a couple minutes ago.  For whatever reason, when I threatened him with the Hom-Dai he went to his crate.

It turns out that when you use a non-hammer as a hammer, it becomes a hammer.

TIL that you can officially become a Roads Scholar in the sense that it isn't just a meme here. In fact, it's listed as a desirable qualification for a job I might apply for.

Chances all the toxic fumes caused them all to live shorter lives than most people at the time. Even if they didn't work those enslaved kids to death quicker than the Khmer Rouge, they'd still die sooner than your average East Asian resident.

And when the only tool you have is a hammer, everything looks like a nail.  (I always think of this as The I-79 Song.)

It was 71F when I got out the door at 4:50 AM this morning.  Despite my best efforts in drinking 12 ounces of extra water before my run (13.1 miles today) and another 20 ounces during I still got dehydrated.  I was down about four pounds of water weight when I got home and felt dizzy for about another two hours afterwards.  Presently I'm at 210 ounces of water consumed for the day.  I'm not sure what lesson I can take away from this other than maybe try 64 ounces of water before heading out the door instead of 52 or my normal 40?

Pretty sure temperature wasn't the issue. According to weather underground it was 73 at 6:50 AM (I don't know how fast he runs 13 miles), with of course desert humidity and no sunlight for almost the entire first half of the run.

I started at 4:52 AM and got to my front door at 6:35 AM (a little under 8 MPH).  I Felt fine during the run and my average heart rate was 130 BPM.

I have a 10-mile run tomorrow morning.  I'm going to up my pre-run water intake and see if that makes a difference.  The weather is virtually the same in the forecast tomorrow.

I'd say your body reacting differently to similar physical activity on different days is a normal part of aging.

I don't know about that.  I'm running longer distances more consistently without problems nowadays than I did in my 20s.  FWIW this was the first day this year I've attempted 13.1 miles in weather hotter than 70F.

I'll probably start with the adjustment I mentioned a couple posts up and see if that works out.  I also think that I probably need to eat something before 10 mile plus roads during the summer months.  I neglected to mention that I didn't eat before starting this morning.

kkt

If the climate is dryer now than when you usually run, that will have an effect too.  Having something to eat before you start's probably a good idea too.

It felt more today humid oddly.  Humid until I got outside the city limits and picked up a breeze in the farmlands.

There is two wildfire going on along Trimmer Springs Road and Big Creek Road not too far from where I live.  I've noticed there is this odd stickiness in the morning air that tends to start up once fire season kicks into gear.

My wife just realized that much of Godfather Part II is set on the Nevada side of Lake Tahoe.  I'm not sure how she missed this given how many times they make references to the lake and the Sierra Nevada.

Following up with what I was talking yesterday regarding feeling woozy, today I ran 10 miles as planned.  I started at 5 AM and got to my door at 6:17 AM.  According to my watch I averaged 123 BPM during the run.

I feel substantially better today despite the morning conditions being nearly identical to today.  While I ran three miles less I pushed myself far harder lifting at the gym today after breakfast.  I changed nothing this morning regarding my pre-run water intake and needed way less when I got back.  At this time yesterday I had consumed 180 ounces of fluid whereas today I'm only at 128 ounces.

The only things I did different yesterday versus Sunday was drink way more water through the day and took in a lot more calories.  I'm not sure if there is causality for the caloric intake since I don't always feel like crap on the first run of the week.  I do feel like the extra hydration yesterday afternoon did help substantially today.

When Barack Obama was President, I attended an event here where he spoke.  He said he had never been to Tahoe before; as he was arriving on Marine One, he said, "I was admiring the beautiful scenery, and then I looked down at the lovely waters of the lake and thought, 'poor, poor Fredo'."

Crap, yeah, do mention that!  I was going to suggest drinking more water, but I'm someone who drinks less water than most when doing physical work in the heat, and I didn't have a good way of telling if the amount you drank was enough.  But no food?  I definitely would have recommended eating something.  Or even just some Gatorade powder to mix into your water halfway through the run or something.

I wonder if he came up with that quip himself, or by a speechwriter.

Regardless of who wrote it he still had to deliver the punchline.
