The only place I've been approached by a bounty hunter was the parking lot of a Wal-Mart.

A bounty hunter worked for me once.  I went out with him a couple times to help bring people in.  Not really all that exciting of work IMO.  Being decked out in full body armor and carrying a long gun tended to make people pretty complaint.

I didn't realize "good looking enough to be offered hookers" was something I should put on my CV.

At a job interview, that's probably a bad answer to "What are your strengths?"

Malt-O-Meal tastes the same as name brand.

I don't think you can just 180 reverse a conversation away from prostitution, drugs and bounty hunting onto store brand spam.

You might say that it indicates that you are a "people person" and that "people naturally gravitate to you."

The hot cereal or the cold cereal? Marshmallow Mateys and Cinnamon Toasters are vastly superior to Lucky Charms and Cinnamon Toast Crunch. And I fully admit my bias since I grew up in the same town they're made in, but even if you don't like them, you have to admit there's a huge difference.

The cold cereal, the only generic that tastes different is Spam, at least to my taste buds.

Store brand fig newtons don't hold a candle to Nabisco.  Same with store brand Cheez-It crackers.

But I can think of one name brand food item that has gotten worse over time, whereas one of the store brands actually tastes as good as the name brand used to taste.  And that's the Aldi version of animal crackers.  They're like what you remember Barnum's Animals tasting like as a kid, or maybe even slightly better.

Generic Cheez-Its are terrible. Just saw Kyle beat me to it.

Generic Wheat Thins, on the other hand, are just fine.

Vons/Safeway Tuxedo cookies taste exactly the same as Oreos.  I gave them a try a week ago when I saw that they cost about half of what Oreos.

The Tuxedos also don't give you black Oreo poops.  That alone elevated them above Oreos.

Quote from: JayhawkCO on August 24, 2026, 01:50:14 PMI rode Greyhound once, and once only, back in 2005. I didn't have issues myself, but I saw two people get arrested that were on my bus and there was a woman performing "services" for drugs in the back of the bus. There is quite a difference.

For what it's worth, I've taken Greyhound several times, but only in a handful of states:

Chicago IL ↔ Saint Louis MO, a couple of times

Marion IL → Chicago IL

Chicago IL (Cumberland) → Menominee MI

Chicago IL ↔ (Saint Louis MO) ↔ Springfield MO, overnight a few times

Quote from: Scott5114 on August 24, 2026, 03:40:00 PMPersonally, I don't feel like dressing up makes me feel nice enough to justify the effort, and also most clothing with formal connotations in American culture was developed with the climate of somewhere like Connecticut in mind, not Southern Nevada. There is formal wear developed for warm and humid climates, but because of where and why it was developed it puts out an "Antebellum South" vibe that is not particularly well received, and sticks out.

So that leaves dressing up to situations where I need to impress other people. And going to the grocery store is very much not one of those situations. The cashier is going to sell me peanut butter no matter how I'm dressed, the other customers are going to be aggravatingly in the way no matter how I'm dressed...so what's the point?

Right now, both Lost Wages and North Texas are under a Extreme Heat Warning with the temperatures and "feels like" under the category of "unbearably hot". Expecting me to dress up in a suit and tie is just a recipe to overheat.

I'm sure there are places where a dress code is enforced. I just don't know where in DFW or LW. Even the cruise lines have replaced "formal night" with a more relaxed yet dressed up theme. I kinda miss that since there were some absolutely elegant designs with even a Japanese couple dressed up in their kimonos and such that they stole the night as best dressed.

Note that chinos and a polo shirt would be good enough.

This. The Mid-Ohio Valley of W.V. is somewhat warmer than Connecticut, but I won't wear long pants and sleeves when it's 95° outside. I usually solve this issue by going with the polo shirt and killing the long pants—replacing them with some dress shorts. I switch to pants when it starts to cool off.

And I usually wear this 'fit to school (does a discussion of school dress codes need to come up next?), alternating an outfit like that with normal clothing during the week. Now, marching band season—and daily after-school practice—does also play a role in these outfits.

Actually, I'd say I dress a little nicer than the average person, but I do disagree with dressing nice for a Wal-Mart trip or similar.

My average clothing consists of the same type of jogging pants with a T-shirt which is either plain, with some sort of band logo, or depicting Québec Route 199.

If I'm actually going to a store it usually is right after I get done with the gym.  Usually nobody looks twice at someone in gym attire, especially early in the morning.

I used to manage one of the fanciest restaurants in Denver. People used to call and ask about dress code. We'd tell them, "In theory business casual, but in reality, it's Denver. No one really cares."

If anything, a trip to Mal-Wart calls for dressing down.

As long as you can manage to stay from being on of People of Walmart you're probably okay.
