Had a look at the 1856 Bidwell Bar Suspension Bridge which used to span the Middle Fork Feather River before it was moved in 1966 during the creation of Lake Oroville.  Bidwell Bar Bridge was apparently opened to vehicle traffic until the mid-1950s before it was taken out of service.  I'm fairly certain this was first suspension bridge in California and is it kind of amazing to me that it survived the floods in the 1860s.  Now it's sitting about Lake Oroville at Bidwill Canyon Marina:

Suffice to say the replacement Bidwell Bridge on CA 162 is quite the looker:

I guess since they moved the bridge, they probably didn't make new anchorages, hence the supports at the bottom. Should be cool to see it fre-standing, as it did whilst it was in its original place.
I build roads on Minecraft. Like, really good roads.
Interstates traveled:
4/5/10*/11**/12**/15/25*/29*/35(E/W[TX])/40*/44**/49(LA**)/55*/64**/65/66*/70°/71*76(PA*,CO*)/78*°/80*/95°/99(PA**,NY**)

*/** indicates a terminus/termini being traveled
° Indicates a gap (I.E Breezwood, PA.)

more room plz

My assumption was that it probably way cheaper to stabilize the structure that way than to build new anchorages.

Here's one. It used to be some railroad bridge that carried freight trains from Tarboro to Farmville. It's ironic of how this structure is still standing.

This bridge is half abandoned before a new interchange was built with I-74 in 2008. I wonder what will happen to this bridge when it gets replaced!

Don't go out that much, I only go out occasionally. But yeah, if I took a photo it would be a lot nicer!

Does it really count as a find if you aren't going out to confirm the Google Image?  At minimum it isn't all exciting viewing a bunch of Google Images.

I think nothing is better than spamming North Carolina Google Images on so many boards.

Yes, and I'm just telling you how annoying it is to see so many worthless North Carolina Google Maps posts.  Try contributing something meaning for once, it is way more fun.

I sure hope, you don't seem to get it when people give you critical feedback.  You sure ruined this thread when others actually put serious contributions into it.  Sometimes letting a thread stay dormant is far better than wasting everyone's time with fluff.

I try to not create so many threads when asking stuff. I search for existing threads and find where my ideas fit the best in before creating another one.

Again, if you don't have anything worthwhile to add perhaps you should refrain from posting.  I can assure you the majority of us interested in abandoned bridges would be far more appreciative of someone actually going out to document them.  We get enough of this Google Image crap on Facebook groups like Roadgeekery and Freewayjim.  I know this is blunt feedback, but it almost feels like you're in denial and making excuses to just post fluff.

Two abandoned bridges I found at the bottom of Lake Kaweah to put this thread back on track.

Tolbs, this how you should be doing threads like this.  Do us a favor and save your Google Map images.

Another notable that I found in Hawaii, the 1932 Pali Road Bridge (a viaduct) which now is partially incorporated into an overlook:

Someone made a makeshift Streetview of this bridge that used to be part of the Upper Levels Highway (BC-99) in West Vancouver until it was re-routed and upgraded in the 1970s. It is currently used as part of a walking trail and for a pipeline of some sort. You can see the new bridge in the background.

I found a cool one today:

Quote from: CoreySamson on August 30, 2025, 07:26:22 PMOld 131st St over Bird Creek

This one is closed to traffic, only accessible by walking. This one is heavily obscured by foliage at the entrance, which you can see in the photo. Makes it seem pretty magical when you walk onto it. This one was also impressively tall.

Here's a really fascinating one that is right in my backyard (it literally only takes me 15 minutes to walk to it from my dorm)! This recently abandoned truss bridge is the only span that remains of the original OK 11 bridge over the Arkansas River at Jenks, OK, built in 1909. It was repurposed as the entrance for a now-defunct trailer park, where it remains today.

Location on GSV:

Here's an article on the bridge with some more information:

The Joe Creek bridge was originally part of the old bridge at Jenks that was built in 1909. This isn't the 19 span pony truss that is still there, this was a through truss span. It was moved to this location circa 1948. The Creek Nation bought the property the trailer park was located on, but I haven't heard anything about what they plan on using the land for. It is right across Riverside Drive from the River Spirit casino, which is owned and operated by the Creek Indians. Hopefully they won't remove the bridge if/when they develop this land. I used to get work done at Chalo's Tire Shop, which is just down the road from the abandoned bridge.

Chalo's Tire Shop was just recently closed and moved to north Tulsa, along with the other shop and the Messianic Jew church that was on that side of the road, so I suppose something is afoot. I hope the bridge doesn't go too, so I figured I'd get a picture before anything could happen to it.

Possibly a repost, but I found these bridges on Florida SR-230. Pre-built for 4-lanes but never actually got built for such... https://maps.app.goo.gl/ww8p988L25BWxwZo8
