The only problem with synthetic is that they absolutely reek of BO about 30 seconds into doing any kind of activity despite deodorant/anti-perspirant. But the moisture wicking is great. If I'm only wearing one layer, i.e. a sun hoodie while climbing a mountain or something, synthetic is fine. But, I prefer merino wool as a baselayer if I'm going to have anything else over the top of it. Otherwise I'm stinkifying multiple layers.

My experience so far is that it doesn't stink, even after multiple uses before laundering.  But I've heard that it holds onto the stink worse than cotton after laundering.

Similarly, earlier this month when I had to shovel the "snowcrete," I worked up a heavy sweat and got my clothes dirty, but then the next day when I went back out to shovel some more I wore the same jeans and sweatshirt under the theory that they were already dirty, so why filthy up something else?
