45 mph?

Surprisingly, this is correct. This is NE 2 (the road, not the forum user) near Lincoln. Link here.

It looked it might be on the edge of the city, which would suggest a lower limit :).

Alright, next up. This is in km/h ending in 0.

I didn't manage to trick you! :-D

Yes, this is on Homer Watson Blvd in Kitchener just north of the Block Line roundabout (street view link). The limit goes back up to 70 at the top of the hill.

Yikes, the dreaded Block Line roundabout. Infamous in the roundabout 'circles' :-D. I didn't recognize it right away with that new apartment building. There's a ground floor I'm not sure I'd want to live on.

The limit of 50 up the hill seems odd, but I guess it has to match the limit coming down the hill, which I assume is posted 50 to slow traffic in advance of the roundabout.

I think the Timmies has more to worry about than the apartment building (unless you mean this apartment). :D

Yes, the top of the hill is where the SB directions drops to 50. It seems like an archaic rule to need both directions to have the same limit, but that's probably the case.

Indeed, that's the apartment building I was thinking of. I don't remember seeing it when viewing that roundabout on GSV before. But you're right, the Timmies doesn't even have a concrete wall to protect it!

I agree, it usually makes sense because drivers may not expect two different limits for the same road depending on direction, but I think in some cases, like this, drivers should be able to figure it out and adapt as necessary.

That said, I might also argue that an advisory 50 km/h may be better; I'm not used to seeing actual regulatory speed limits dropped prior to roundabouts.

On GSV, it appears the 50 drops were added sometime between 2011 and 2014. That was during the timeframe when the high school girl got hit by a school bus in the roundabout, so I'm sure the Region added the regulatory 50's as a stronger message to motorists (whether it's worked or not, I don't know).

Just making sure, is it mph or km/h?

Looks like it is km/h. The road markings look Canadian as well.  :)

I'll try 50 km/h.

True, seems like a safe bet. I'll go low with 40 km/h.

The OP also made an edit to say km/h which is what I was basing my comment on.

50 km/h it is. This is Avenue Road in Toronto.

Most arterials in and near the downtown core of Toronto are posted 40 km/h. Avenue Road used to be Highway 11A, and Highway 11 was Yonge Street (basically Main Street Toronto), and that's probably why Avenue Road was built this wide with a higher speed limit - intended as a bypass of Yonge for drivers going into/out of Toronto.

I'm surprised they didn't lower this one because the current mayor (John Tory) went on a speed limit lowering spree, including lowering many suburban arterials to speeds way lower than the design speed.

Nice! That translates to just over 30 mph which I thought seemed about right given the urban setting and lack of shoulders. I'll have the next one up shortly.

Could it be 55?

Sadly, yes, according to PennDOT.  This is perhaps the most egregious segment of the unnecessary "urban zone" on I-90 near Erie:angry:
