My wife just finished a re-watch, and as I'm wont to do, I'll cross in and out of the room enough that I have the salient plot points and characters down*. Like others have said, if you approach it as the millennial fever-dream of a trashy period romance novel, then it can be enjoyable.

*This is how I also keep up-to-date on The Bachelor.

The majority of my career has been in musical theatre.

Not sure if this fits, but: I can only eat "breakfast" foods for breakfast. I get weirded out trying to eat pizza (warm or cold), vegetables (unless they're in an egg dish), steak or chicken (even though they're often served as part of breakfast meals).

Sunday mornings in college, my roommates are scrounging for whatever is left on the ground from last night's party, and I'm in the kitchen preparing a red pepper and three-cheese skillet.
I can eat "breakfast" foods any time, day or night.

Quote from: kphoger on September 08, 2025, 04:09:47 PMAh, that's why I couldn't find it.  I'd posted about it on a completely unrelated forum.  Here's a copy-and-paste from that other forum:

My wife has got us watching Bridgerton after the boys go to bed.  Certain things rubbed me the wrong way at first, but then, once I realized that it's just the TV version of a trashy romance novel, everything settled into place.  Is the fashion wrong for the time period? it doesn't matter, because they just have to look the way we want them to have looked.  Do the dances not fit the music being played? it doesn't matter, because all that matters is that there's a ball.  Do I see a fortepiano but hear a modern piano? it doesn't matter, because it's just an excuse to put the word 'pianoforte' into the script.  Is the first season basically pornographic? it doesn't matter, because it's just a trashy romance novel show.  Is everyone more of a caricature than a character? it doesn't matter, because it's just a trashy romance novel show.  Now that I've got the proper perspective, it's actually fun to watch.

So, you're confident enough in your knowledge of historical costumes that it bothers you when a show gets them wrong?  It seems like that by itself should be an item on the list :)

No, I'm not.  So if it was noticeable to me, then it must have been rather glaring.  But, at this point, I can't remember what it was about the clothing that triggered me in the first place.

Quote from: formulanone on September 09, 2025, 09:47:57 AM...I really wanted this in that same store, too. But half my notebooks sit on a shelf so I don't need another just yet, and I haven't warmed up to dot grid paper.

The discovery of dot grid paper was life-changing for me. It's the best of both worlds between ruled paper and grid paper—open enough that you can write long lines of text on it, but the regular dot placement means you can easily make a table or nested/indented list and it's all very neat and orderly. I freaking love the stuff.

If you want to play around with it, here is a dot paper generator. My preferred settings are grey with 6 dots per inch, but you should try a few different dot densities until you find one you like, then keep the pdf around to print whenever.
