If you're new to the genre entirely, My Bloody Valentine's Loveless is probably the most well-regarded shoegaze album. Personally I think the genre as a whole is a bit underrated aside from MBV, but it's easy to understand why, as its name comes from most of the genre's artists having so little stage presence that they were practically gazing at their shoes the whole time.
This is my favorite album of all time.

I'm sorry I'm posting so much, just a big music nerd and music that I wouldn't suspect the super general public knowing as much makes me happy.

Lush (Sweetness and Light etc.) got me into shoegaze back in the day
