Bananas used to be better
« on: January 26, 2023, 12:49:49 PM »

Notice how bananas used to be better.

The bananas we had in the 1970s were creamier, sweeter, and tastier. They didn't bruise as easily, and they stayed fresher longer.

Man, they were good!

Wouldn’t know, I’m allergic to something in bananas.  I always get minimum a swollen throat and at worst begin violently vomiting if I ingest anything with banana ingredients.  I’m told it might be somehow related to a latex allergy?

The current variety of grocery store bananas are ALL literally clones of each other and cannot be grown from seeds.  Since they are now under attack by a blight fungus that they were immune to until a decade or so ago they will likely be extinct within the next couple of decades.  From what I am aware of, regardless, they could not hold a candle to the taste and texture to the previous varieties that essentially went extinct during the 1950s or early 1960s.  'Yes, we have no bananas!"

Fortunately, the size of a banana is still one of itself.
