Drove the Wilbur Cross Parkway from I-91 in Meriden down to the Sikorsky Bridge, then the Merritt to Route 8 (SB direction only) and have pics of the new exit numbers on my Route 15 page...

Again, I only got SB shots this time around.  Exits in Meriden have not yet been renumbered, though the new exit gore signs are up and bagged, including the CTDOT maintenance garage exit.

I look forward to Google Cars utilizing the Merritt and Wilbur Cross Parkways after the exits are renumbered to mileage-based!

Quote from: jp the roadgeek on August 06, 2025, 08:59:47 AMThe gore sign for the DOT exit (62) is still tarped over.

I just chauffeured my wife down to new Exit 61 for a doctor's appointment.

Southbound the "Exit 62" gore sign is visible.  There is still no exit number tab on the other signs for the exit southbound.

(Due to traffic, I didn't drive that section of the WCP northbound.)

Looks like they did the new numbers within the construction zone in Meriden.  Didn't get a chance to see the DOT exit, but they did miss the East Main St signage on the ramp from 91 South to 15 South.
Interstates I've clinched: 97, 290 (MA), 291 (CT), 291 (MA), 293, 295 (DE-NJ-PA), 295 (RI-MA), 384, 391, 395 (CT-MA), 395 (MD), 495 (DE), 610 (LA), 684, 691, 695 (MD), 695 (NY), 795 (MD)

I can confirm, at least southbound.  Exit 67W (E Main St) is now Exit 64B and Exit 67S (I-91 South) is now Exit 64A.

The only advance sign (if you want to call it that) for Exit 64B (former Exit 67W):

The camera misfired for the Exit 64B sign.

Exit 64A (former Exit 67S):

And yes, the ramp from I-91 South to the E Main St exit still lists it as Exit 67.  Not sure why this ramp split has a number and why 67 was chosen.  If anything, I think it would have been an I-91 South number, or better yet, have it Exit 16 (like NB) and have Rt 15 South be Exit 17.  And from the mainline, it could be signed "EXITS 17-16".  But with current CTDOT practices, ramps that split will not be given any separate designation.

MikeTheActuary

FWIW, I'm pretty sure that 64A was still 67S Wednesday afternoon.

Regarding East Main St....perhaps ConnDOT is making an exception from its new rule to maintain consistency with the numbering of the East Main exit from Route 15...or they are doing some sort of logic gymnastics on when the ramp from I-91 southbound becomes Route 15?

(Anybody got a link to the signage plans for the Meriden interchange rebuild project?)

Yes... only NB... and this came out before the CT 15 mile-based exits were announced...

91-15NB Meriden Mix by Jay Hogan, on Flickr

NOTE - sign images extrapolated from the contract plans for easy viewing.

No sign contracts for SB yet, as the SB "Meriden Mix" project is still in design phase.

UGH!!  691 West with Meriden as a control when you are already in Meriden is the same nails on a chalkboard as 91 North for Hartford at the COB.  Should be Waterbury.  And I thought MUTCD discouraged using a road as a control "city".  Unless 66 East is an in-kind replacement, I'm surprised Middlefield is still used as a control along with Middletown (although CTDOT encourages using 91 to 9 to get to Middletown, so maybe Middlefield only is appropriate).
Interstates I've clinched: 97, 290 (MA), 291 (CT), 291 (MA), 293, 295 (DE-NJ-PA), 295 (RI-MA), 384, 391, 395 (CT-MA), 395 (MD), 495 (DE), 610 (LA), 684, 691, 695 (MD), 695 (NY), 795 (MD)

It should really be in the terms of these contracts that the installer clear any brush or branches obstructing the new signs.

Most of the new ones for I-384 are blocked.

shadyjay

RE:  sign brush cutting,
Since the project is still ongoing, I'm sure they'll come back and clear the vegetation.  After all, they still have to remove the old overheads/signs.

RE:  Meriden
I have NO problem whatsoever with Berlin Tpk(e) being listed for CT 15 North.
For CT 66 East, Middletown should be the primary and maybe Middlefield on a secondary.
Not sure why CT 66 East is getting no mention from CT 15 NB Exit [68N].  I know that the "second chance" I-91 North is meant for motorists getting to I-91 North from East Main St, but still CT 66 East should get a mention.

I really don't like "Downtown Meriden" and "Meriden" being used on I-691 West on the same gantry!  If you want Downtown traffic to use US 5, then sign Exit 2-B as "Park Ave" or "Colony St" or something else.  And for the love of god, change "Chamberlain Hwy" WB to "Lewis Ave", will ya?

jp the roadgeek

Just noticed the Exit 67 East Main St exit tab on the 91 South exit ramp to 15 South was removed, so it's just an empty support above the BGS.  Also, still no exit tabs for the Maintenance Garage (Miller Ave) signage, but the exit number is on the gore sign.
Interstates I've clinched: 97, 290 (MA), 291 (CT), 291 (MA), 293, 295 (DE-NJ-PA), 295 (RI-MA), 384, 391, 395 (CT-MA), 395 (MD), 495 (DE), 610 (LA), 684, 691, 695 (MD), 695 (NY), 795 (MD)

Ugh, they still screwed things up. Exit 52 & 51 southbound should be Exit 51B & 51A!

IIRC rounding is allowed in order to avoid letter suffixes.

They're both at the same interchange, though.  CT keeps doing this - at this point, I figure it's some form of malicious compliance.

I would agree that the exit westbound at Whitney Ave. should have been numbered Exits 51A & 51B. The eastbound exit at Dixwell Ave. is appropriately numbered Exit 52, since it is very close to milepost 52. However, this is how the DOT chose to number the exits, and we have to accept that.

jp the roadgeek

They should've done that in Wallingford then and bumped up 58B to 59, since there is no other exit up until 61.  Also, I hope they correct things northbound in Meriden when the new advance ramp to 91 North opens.  Why East Main St is 64A northbound and 64B southbound can be extremely confusing.

I assume this is happening as part of exit numbering.

A few minutes ago, I drove past a work crew erecting TMMs on the Bradley Connector (Route 20) eastbound.  Looks like they had already finished installing them westbound.

FWIW, the ground-mounted signs (such as they are) that will replace the gantried BGSes at the CT 187/189 interchange have been up for several weeks.  The old signs are still there as well.

After I-84 gets new exit numbers as part of their sign replacement project, I-91 will be next on the list, and the new exit numbers are shown on the map.

I guess that it's just I-95 that's left at this point...

Don't forget US 7.

US 7 has never had a renumbering date. Maybe the southern portion will be renumbered with Interstate 95, and the northern portion with Interstate 84. It's also possible US 7's exits won't be renumbered at all.

It would be a pretty glaring omission, especially since, unlike PennDOT, they are renumbering stuff on non-interstates.  The southern exits are just off by 1 so not a huge priority (and they're looking at removing exit 3 anyways), but the ones around I-84 should be renumbered but aren't on the site.

And what about Route 20?  I did hear its getting mile markers.  So does that mean it can get exit numbers as well?  Personally, I'd like to see it become an "I-X91" with Exit 1 being I-91 and numbers counting up to the airport.

Or CT Route 15 (aka the westernmost segment of the Wilbur Cross Highway) and the Milford Parkway, which had its exit numbers added in 2012- in sequential!
