EOG Resources is another spinoff from Enron, and is much more profitable than Enron was in its last two-three years.

Quote from: KCRoadFan on December 21, 2023, 01:31:44 PMIsn't there a store called Lawson that started out selling milk in Ohio - but is now a convenience store chain in Japan?

Lawson's was a chain of convenience stores in and around Northeast Ohio.  Their top products were dairy and deli items.  In the days when "blue laws" kept supermarkets from being open on Sundays, Lawson's, as well as other corner store chains were open.

Lawson's was bought by Dairy Mart in the late 80s/early 90s, and the Lawson name was retired.

Despite the name being resurrected in the Far East, there is at least one location in Hawaii.

This isn't surprising. Hawaii has a lot of connections to Japan.

We have a landline at work and I think it's stupid you still have to dial 1 for long distance. I often get interrupted by a recording when I call a customer, whether I dial 1 or not. The dang phone call is probably hopping a cell tower somewhere or going over VOIP, so long distance is free money to the provider.

I shitcanned my landline 12 years ago.

Kmart in Guam has outlasted Kmart in the mainland US.  Kmart Guam is in the same seat as Kmart Australia given that they both outlived the Mainland US Kmart and the franchise somehow made those stores viable.

That store, along with a location in Charlottetown in the U.S. Virgin Islands, is actually still owned by the current owner of what remains of Sears. There is also one smaller Kmart location in Florida that remains as the only mainland Kmart location.

Kmart Australia has not been related to the American Kmart since 1994 when Kmart USA's parent company divested its remaining stakes in the company. Likewise, the Australian Target is not related to the American one despite sharing most of their branding.

If you want to be overly technical, Big Lots has outlasted Big Lots. ;)

The original Big Lots filed for Chapter 7 bankruptcy this year, but after about 400 stores were "rescued" and transferred to new ownership.
