I don't know if this has been mentioned, but once the Interstate 40-to-US 93 free-flow interchange is completed, only one thing will keep 93 from being completely freeway between Exit 67 and Interstate 40. That is, this right-in, right-out intersection at the Cerbat Foothills Recreation Area: https://www.google.com/maps/@35.2058257,-114.0954634,194m/data=!3m1!1e3?entry=ttu&g_ep=EgoyMDI2MDQxMi4wIKXMDSoASAFQAw%3D%3D. What will become of that intersection?

It probably wouldn't be too hard to turn that into a RIRO interchange, but who knows how much of a priority it is.

Has NDOT ever in its existence passed on an opportunity to create a new bannered US route?

Hard to say, but here's a recent video.  https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=WvRavJ4DiHk  Scroll to around 17' 10".

Quote from: roadfro on April 13, 2026, 04:57:21 PMThe part of I-11 that was never part of US 95 is all new build and never was US 93.
I seem to recall there was a very, very brief period of time between the Boulder City Bypass's construction (or at least early development) and the designation of Interstate 11. The state line plate on the Colorado River Bridge refers to it as just US 93.
I know the bridge was done years before the rest of it (maybe even before I-11 was thought up; certainly before any pieces were designated).  I don't recall if the Boulder City Bypass was ever just US 93 but if it was I think it would have been quite brief.
The Hoover Dam Bypass was designed and constructed before any real talk of I-11 ever happened. The Boulder City Bypass began design and construction after the I-11 concept was gaining traction (or perhaps even after "future interstate corridor" status was more official). Note the dividing line between these two projects is the Exit 2 Hoover Dam interchange.

I-11 being further along in concept allowed design details such as this to be added to the Boulder City Bypass bridge crossing over old US 95 (now SR 173) during construction. Phase 2 of the BC bypass opened co-signed as I-11/US 93, and, IIRC, I-11 shields were added up to Railroad Pass (where I-515 ended) simultaneously—it was a little while later before I-11 shields replaced I-515 up to the Henderson Spaghetti Bowl (I-215/SR 546 interchange).

NDOT has always preferred to move the main US route onto a new freeway bypass and create a bannered route for the old highway... (and then also not really sign the bannered route at all on the old highway itself and/or offload the bannered route to local control).

The "main route moves to the new freeway" MO seems to be the general preference in many western states.

One needs a Facebook account to access the photos. I guess I'm SOL.

I tried to copy the photo, but it wasn't working. I'm not sure how to upload a photo directly here.
