Quote from: 1995hoo on March 04, 2026, 07:42:18 AMLast night, I was going the speed limit in a residential area. Some ****** with a Maryland plate first tailgated, coming up inches behind me, and then apparently became infuriated when I didn't speed up because he proceeded to pass over the double yellow line and then race off at 15 over the speed limit. Naturally, he wound up stopped directly in front of me at the next red light. Speeding in residential areas really doesn't save time.

Nestoring, were we? :D

Eh, he just hit the light at the wrong time.  Never can tell.

"Nestoring" refers to going the speed limit, or below, in the left lane of a multi-lane highway like the Beltway (which was the particular road on which he said he did that). I was on a residential street with one lane in each direction. Fundamentally different situation.

I am generally strongly anti-tailgating. However, one exception is when someone pulls out directly in front of me from a side street, requiring hard braking. I have been known to briefly tailgate (really just refuse to brake until the last possible second, which naturally results in coming very close to them) before backing off. This ensures they are aware of their judgment error but don't think I'm a habitual tailgater.

If he'd hit a green light, but 1995hoo hit the next red, then he'd be telling us that speeding in residential areas does save time.

You're assuming they (a) look in their mirror and (b) care.

Do you also loudly blare the horn while doing so and then post the video on YouTube?

Speeding:  We were driving west on I-64 from about I-61 through western Virginia, W.V., and Kentucky, ultimately heading for Seattle.  We were not in a hurry and driving a Jeep Wrangler... great for many things, but high speeds are not one of them, so we were sticking to about 5 over.  This little yellow coupe zoomed past us about about 20 over.  Fine, they're in a hurry.  About 10 miles later we saw the little yellow coupe again, pulled over by a highway patrol officer.  About 5 miles after that, the SAME little yellow coupe came zooming past us AGAIN at 20 over... and in another 15 minutes we saw them getting another ticket.  And then another in another in another half hour.  Some people just don't learn very fast.  And since she kept getting pulled over and waiting for the ticket to get written, I can say that speeding did not save HER time at all.

I'm actually assuming that they don't care. So just (a), which is not a bold assumption.

No, a simple thumbs down (if I later get the opportunity to pass them) will suffice.
