CLARK/FLOYD COUNTY, Ind. — The Indiana Department of Transportation announces it will designate Indiana 265 as Interstate 265 from the I-65/I-265 interchange north of Jeffersonville to the Lewis and Clark Bridge over the Ohio River in Clark County.

This designation will work to create a more functional and integrated roadway system along the corridor for both Hoosier motorists and for those located in surrounding areas. The contract includes guardrail installation work, I-265 resigning work as well as the renumbering of exits along the entire I-265 corridor.

Indiana Department of Transportation contractor RoadSafe Traffic Systems, Inc. is scheduled to begin guardrail installation work on or after Monday, October 28, in Clark and Floyd Counties. Crews will begin conducting nightly single lane closures from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. on IN-265/I-265 in Clark and Floyd Counties while guardrail work is in progress. Crews plan to conduct nightly single lane closures for guardrail work for up to three months, weather permitting.

INDOT will provide additional information as work progresses. Additional project information and resources can be found here.

Overall work along I-265 is expected to be complete by Fall 2026, weather permitting. This work is part of a $14.4 million contract awarded to RoadSafe in December 2023.INDOT reminds drivers to slow down, use extra caution and avoid distractions when traveling in and near work zones. All work is weather-dependent and schedules are subject to change.

About time they got around to this.
Indiana: counties 100%, highways 100%
Illinois: counties 100%, highways 61%
Michigan: counties 100%, highways 56%
Wisconsin: counties 86%, highways 23%

Two years for guardrails and new signs?

The Ghostbuster

IMO, they should have signed Interstate 265 as a continuous route when the Lewis and Clark Toll Bridge was completed in 2016. Also, it is high time the KY 841 duplex with Interstate 265 is eliminated and regulated to the 10-mile segment between US 31W/60 and Interstate 65.

Maybe they're coordinating with Kentucky?

So did InDOT update the Mile Markers/Exit numbers to continue Kentucky's and increase CCW? I believe the "zero" point is supposed to be reset in Kentucky to the 65/265 interchange and count from there CCW and be continuous into Indiana to I-64

I thought that was the FHWA's condition for unifying the route under the continuous I-265 banner

Also this update could be merged into the older running I-265 Bridge thread https://www.aaroads.com/forum/index.php?topic=6283.0 but separate works too

Finally, we will have one I-265 around Louisville instead of two! It should've been that way in the first place.
Go Cubs Go! Go Cubs Go! Hey Chicago, what do you say? The Cubs are gonna win today!

This would indicate that the renumbering of the remainder of Kentucky's exits will be done under a separate contract. Or, given that Kentucky uses demountable copy, done as a price contract project such as what's used for one-off sign replacements outside whole-scale resigning projects.
Government would be tolerable if not for politicians and bureaucrats.

Is there a date yet for when the Interstate 265 exits (both in Indiana and Kentucky) will be renumbered?

Not sure about the exits but there are enhanced mile markers covered in the median of I-265 that would likely be for the new mileages.

I checked the median mileposts on Google Maps Street View, and they correspond with the present-day mileage, not the proposed renumbered mileage. The Street View images are from a few months ago, so I assume they are unchanged.

I-55

The existing mile markers are uncovered in the median, while the new markers are covered. It doesn't appear that the new markers are exactly halfway between existing markers which would suggest the mileage going west doesn't align.

Technically, coordinated milepost/exit numbers of 3di across statelines is only Guidance (recommendation) in the MUTCD, not Standard (requirement). Examples of 3di that reset, are I-470 ohio/west virginia, and I-295 rhode island/massachusetts.
Control cities CAN be off the route! Control cities make NO sense if signs end before the city is reached!

Travel Mapping - Most Traveled: I-40, 20, 10, 5, 95 - Longest Clinched: I-20, 85, 24, 16, NJ Tpk mainline
Champions - UGA FB '21 '22 - Atlanta Braves '95 '21 - Atlanta MLS '18

FHWA made it a requirement for Louisville 265 before approving the unified 265

Another of the 3dis that reset at the state line is IL/MO 270
