Quote from: paulthemapguy on December 24, 2025, 09:14:46 AMFor the May-August 2026 challenge, I was thinking of changing it to "Oops all concurrencies!" with no geographical restrictions. This would replace the "US route meets state route" challenge. What do people think of that?

I think it would result in fewer playable photos.

But maybe I misunderstand.  What do you mean by "Oops" and the exclamation point?

Only concurrencies would be playable, but they can come from anywhere. I am playtesting the idea right now, and so far I am coming up with three options for every number combination...when it comes to ones digits. I haven't playtested it for tens digits yet, but I'm sure I will soon.

I'd like to see the concurrencies idea dropped in in the middle of 2026.  You could always do the US/state ones later, at which point more time would have passed since similar challenges.

I'm fine either way.

The "oops-all" reminds me of those limited edition Cap'n Crunch cereals. (Oops, All Berries! and Oops! All Red No.5! come to mind.)

**GENERAL 2026 INFO**

I playtested the concurrency theme for Seasons 9 and 10, and I rather like it! Easy enough for people to participate, but not TOO easy. (Don't click these playtests for Season 9 or Season 10 unless you want some answers to the challenges spoiled for you!)

Here's what to look for in 2026:
Season 7 (January 1 to late February): Post the junction of two numbered highways in a state/province adjacent to your home region, where the two highway's numbers have the specified ones digits.
Season 8 (March 1 to late April): Post the junction of two numbered highways in a state/province adjacent to your home region, where the two highway's numbers have the specified tens digits.
Season 9 (May 1 to late June): Post signage indicating a concurrency between two numbered routes, where the two route numbers have the specified ones digits.
Season 10 (July 1 to late August): Post signage indicating a concurrency between two numbered routes, where the two route numbers have the specified tens digits.
Season 11 (September 1 to late October): Post a picture of signage indicating a numbered exit off of a numbered expressway, where the number of the route has one of the specified ones digits, and the exit number ends in the other specified ones digit.
Season 12 (November 1 to late December): Post a picture of signage indicating a numbered exit off of a numbered expressway, where the number of the route has one of the specified tens digits, and the exit number contains the other specified tens digit.

Here's what's coming up next, for posterity:

Quote from: paulthemapguy on December 25, 2025, 05:19:00 PMThat concludes Season 6! Season 7 will begin on January 1.

The next few days with a specific challenge will be:
January 1: Post the junction of two routes in a state* adjacent to yours, where both routes have numbers ending in 0.
January 2: Post the junction of two routes in a state* adjacent to yours, where one route has a number ending in 0, and the other route has a number ending in 1.
January 3: Post the junction of two routes in a state* adjacent to yours, where one route has a number ending in 0, and the other route has a number ending in 2.

*-The word "state" can be interpreted to refer to any political region that is in the broadest category of subdivisions just below the national level. A state that borders yours counts, and a province that borders yours counts, whether you yourself live in a state or province. If your state, province, or similar counterpart doesn't share a land border with more than 5 other similar political regions, you are allowed to post from the 5 closest political regions whose geographical centers are closest to your city.

Georgia State Routes 20 and 100 twin up in Rome:

Tennessee 240 from Highway 20 in Summertown:

Florida/Palm Beach CR 880 at Florida 80 in Belle Glade. The last one is an oddity, because this small section sprouting from Florida 15/80 is actually marked as State Road 880 on the FDOT books. (880 is the former alignment of US 441 through Belle Glade, hence the starting point of SR 15.) For whatever reason, it's been posted as CR 880 for at least 25-30 years.

When the digits are equal to each other in this season, it helps to look toward states where the 3-digit routes are numbered as branches of the 2-digit routes. (Except Washington I guess.)
