Nothing from any of the other rational bordering regions, so I'll go irrational just for fun with Andalusia, Spain, bordering New York across the Atlantic.  And it's even a double match. (No, I don't plan to do this regularly and yes, I know this is far more irrational than the Oregon-Hawaii "border".)

I'm not counting water borders as valid plays, but it really doesn't matter that much. The point of this thread is to post interesting road photos. I don't mind the addition of the Hawaii photos. But generally, I haven't been counting water borders as valid water borders. You'll notice I haven't been posting any Michigan photos, being from Illinois. But again, this is a meaningless photo-spamming forum game on the internet. It's not that deep.

Just to set the record straight, I don't seriously think Oregon borders Hawaii in any sense. I also realize Montana, Utah and Arizona also don't border Oregon, even though I frequently go to those states for submissions. But my hands are tied a bit because 3 of the 4 states that actually border mine (and western states in general) don't have extensive numbered route systems.  Even in those that do, like California, my photographic coverage of them isn't very extensive. So there are a lot of combos I wouldn't be able to play if I didn't cast a wider geographic net and include those neighbor states of neighbor states.

I prefer multiple photos every day to make the post more interesting and worthwhile. But even with a wider draw, some days (like tomorrow), I can still only come up with one photo. But please notice that whenever I can, I do give preference to Oregon's actual neighbors of Washington, Idaho, Nevada and California (see this coming Tuesday). I only stretch out further when I can't get 2 or 3 from just those immediate border states.

Because I just came back from my 1st visit there, I throw Hawaii highways in for the sheer fun; like @paulthemapguy said, it makes the game more interesting. But in general, I do try to follow the rules of each round.  I just have the disadvantage of sparser state highways networks out here, so I appreciate everyone letting me bend the rules a bit so I can still take part.

I just went with a variation of the "five-second rule."  The water border between Michigan and Ontario is fewer than five miles so it's okay.  But the crossing of Lake Michigan is too far so I don't post Illinois photos.
