The first Interstate I believe I've clinched was I-595, shown here alongside Florida SR 84, which is the designation for its frontage roads along some of its length:

Tennessee SR 81 at 93 on a dreary afternoon:

Georgia SR 80 at 296 with clear skies:

From May to August, the theme is concurrencies only! No geographical constraints will apply. Qualifying photos will show concurrent trailblazers, or guide markers on cross streets showing multiple routes with arrows pointing in the same direction. A good example for 71 and 175 would be my pair of trailblazers shown in the Iowa photo I posted to day. And a good example for qualifying guide markers would be my 79 and 170 photo for Wisconsin; since Routes 79 and 170 both have arrows pointing to the left, this clearly indicates the start of a concurrency for Routes 79 and 170.

IN-I-94X16EA by Paul Across America, on Flickr

THAT IS THE END OF SEASON 8! Season 9 begins May 1 with the "Oops: All Concurrencies!" theme. As usual, we're doing the ones-digit season before the tens-digit season. There will be no geographical constraints: photos can come from anywhere. Photos should show clusters of trailblazers or sets of guide markers with supplemental arrows pointing in the same direction for the qualifying routes.

For the 1-6 day, a qualifying photo might look like this:

WI-011-036WD by Paul Across America, on Flickr

Or, a qualifying photo might look like this:

MI-US41-026D-Calumet by Paul Across America, on Flickr

Or, a qualifying photo might have guide markers for both routes, whose supplemental arrows both point in the same direction, like this:

IL-US06-351SE by Paul Across America, on Flickr

Those will be the types of photos we see from May to August. We have about a week until then, though.

Too funny!! I didn't even notice that when I posted it at 0-dark-30 this morning blurry-eyed before heading to work.

Really though, both US routes are giving the detour the rabbit ears  :-D

This is a post to get us ready for the start of Season 9: ones digits control the criteria, and all pairs of routes must be concurrencies. There will be no geographical constraints for Seasons 9 and 10. All photos must show sign assemblies that clearly indicate a concurrency. This can be achieved via three different methods, and I will explain those three different methods using examples that will fit May 4th's day requiring a route ending in 0 and a route ending in 3:

1. Show a cluster of trailblazers that serve to reassure drivers that they are on both routes at once. Example photo:

WI-US10-US63EWR by Paul Across America, on Flickr

2. Show a pair of guide markers both with double arrows from a side street. Example photo:

OH-162-US250WE by Paul Across America, on Flickr

3. Show a pair of guide markers from the end of the concurrency, where guide markers for both routes have an arrow pointing in the same matching direction. This example photo shows two routes with the correct numbers, and the matching forward arrows under both routes make this a valid photo:

IL-083-060SN by Paul Across America, on Flickr

The next few days will look like this:

May 1: Post signage indicating a concurrency between two routes, where both routes have a number ending in 0.
May 2: Post signage indicating a concurrency between two routes, of which one route has a number ending in 0, and the other route has a number ending in 1.
May 3: Post signage indicating a concurrency between two routes, of which one route has a number ending in 0, and the other route has a number ending in 2.
May 4, as shown in the example photos above: Post signage indicating a concurrency between two routes, of which one route has a number ending in 0, and the other route has a number ending in 3.

You can interpret from this post that the side-by-side trailblazers are the easiest way to convey that a concurrency qualifies for the challenge criteria. I'm going to lean on side-by-side trailblazers as my main method of selecting photos for the challenges from now until August. Guide markers with supplemental arrows pointing in the same direction are also valid, but you'll see those from me far less often. Double arrows for multiple routes in the middle of a concurrency, as seen from a side road meeting said concurrency, are a rarer situation overall. Those are valid but I expect them to be rarer occurrences.

The next few days:
May 2: Post signage indicating a concurrency between two routes, of which one route has a number ending in 0, and the other route has a number ending in 1.
May 3: Post signage indicating a concurrency between two routes, of which one route has a number ending in 0, and the other route has a number ending in 2.
May 4, as shown in the example photos above: Post signage indicating a concurrency between two routes, of which one route has a number ending in 0, and the other route has a number ending in 3.
