The UK and the EU signed a treaty regarding the status of Gibraltar. It would be isolated behind a hard border due to Brexit. Half of Gibraltar's workforce crosses the border every day.

With the treaty, the sovereignity of Gibraltar as a UK territory will not change. However the land border will be open for free travel, even though Gibraltar officially does not become part of the Schengen Area. But for land travel, it will be the same as being in Schengen.

Immigration checks will be performed at the airport and if needed, at the port, but not at the land border from La Línea in Spain.

A ceremony was held this morning to remove the border fence between La Línea and Gibraltar.
