Trash Mountain changed hands about 9 times since this declaration (7 of which were tonight), but, I was right!

Officially official. One of my favorite fun facts yet in this bizarro season.

Quote from: gonealookin on January 04, 2026, 11:41:36 PMCoaches, and fans, just assume that NFL kickers are automatic inside of 50 yards.  I thought the Ravens should have run another regular offensive play and tried to make it a shorter field goal, rather than having Lamar just move it to the middle of the hash marks and kneel down (and lose a couple yards in the process).  Hell, the other kicker just missed an extra point, which highlighted the risk.

I have noticed teams would rather settle for a lower-grade chance than risk a sack/turnover happening. I don't understand it, even with how much more efficient kickers have gotten over the decades things like this still happen. I remember in 2022, the Broncos camped out for a 65-yard field goal, and I legitimately asked what the fuck they were doing. They missed, and lost.

Let this be a reminder that every game counts, even in September.

What is Trash Mountain again? Google isn't helping.

I thought it was similar to how we were passing the "Football Team" moniker between teams a few years ago, but that can't change more than once per week, and apparently this can.

Widely used term on social media for an awful division? I googled it and found about 20 social media posts on the subject . . .

One of the things I found interesting was that the kick was wide right after the Ravens had run a play to move the spot to center it between the hashmarks. Had they not done that, the ball would have been spotted further to the left. The kick looked far right enough that it might still have missed (or hit the upright), but I daresay it would have stood a better chance of being good had it been spotted on the left hashmark.

AFC, only 4 out of 7 playoff teams correct, but I did have Jacksonville winning the South which I don't think anyone else did.

NFC, 5 out of 7 playoff teams correct. I had Minnesota in who are the highest record to miss, and I did have Carolina with a winning record this year, something I don't think anyone else had.

As a Texans fan, I wish that your predictions come true.

Texans tie at least three franchise record this season:  Longest winning streak at nine games (2018), most wins in a regular season with twelve wins (2012), and longest losing streak to start the season (0-3) and still make the playoffs (also in 2018).  But one new franchise first-ever mark:  first time ever Wild Card seed clinched.

I can't help but worry that Aaron Rodgers has another bag of tricks to throw at our defense....he's had his way vs the Texans over his career; last year he led the Jets to a victory over our team.  Hopefully this time will be different.
We're so far south that we're not even considered "The South"

thenetwork

Still can't get over the fact that the Jets -- the lowly Jets -- are the first team to go a whole season without an interception!!!

Henry

Oh goody, another Packers/Bears matchup in the playoffs; how fitting!

At least my guys will be the Number 2 seed, so no need to worry about running into the Seahawks until the NFC Championship Game.

Nice to see Caleb Williams and Bryce Young, the QBs who were the top overall draft picks in back-to-back years, make their playoff debuts! (Also, for the second time, the Panthers made the playoffs with a losing record--8-9 this time, but at least they made it in because all four NFC South teams sucked.)
Go Cubs Go! Go Cubs Go! Hey Chicago, what do you say? The Cubs are gonna win today!

John Harbaugh exits the Baltimore Ravens.

He is a class act and should easily get another head coaching position this hiring carousel. And really, who has it better than him?

He got kicked to the side.

He certainly would not have been fired today if their season were continuing.  You wonder if the decision had been made prior to the Sunday night game, or if he's gone solely because a rookie kicker missed a field goal.  The fact that this happened today rather than on the NFL's traditional "Black Monday" suggests that ownership slept on it for not one but two nights before settling on the decision, which leads me to think the latter.

Harbaugh should have gotten some slack with the major injuries the Ravens had this year.  They were in the running for the playoffs until the very last play of the regular season.  The Ravens aren't going to find someone better as a replacement.

I agree. Harbaugh has kept the Ravens relevant nearly every year. He only has three losing seasons with them (and two of those seasons were 8-9). Someone is going to get lucky hiring him.

Possibly the New York Giants, if the scuttlebutt on ESPN this evening is any indication.

I'm usually sympathetic to the idea that sometimes things can get stale when someone holds the same job for as long as John Harbaugh has (18 years) and that a clean break can be the best thing for both sides, but this one seems out of left field to me. The Ravens weren't a bad team at all this year (came within a missed field goal of winning another division championship even with the horrible injury luck they had) and on top of that, do they really think they're going to get someone better? There's no home-run coaching hire out there this year, and they're competing with (at least) six other teams who also have head coach positions to fill. Then again, the Ravens job is pretty clearly the most appealing one that's come open so far, so they should be able to hire the candidate they want.

jgb191

If the Ravens hadn't overpaid Lamar Jackson they might have brought in some better players around him....can't blame Harbaugh for that.
