Quote from: Max Rockatansky on January 26, 2026, 10:50:44 PMI would have thought the Seahawks would have opened as a larger favorite than -4.5 points.

I think I'm going to tease the line back and try to take them -9.5.

Patriots 3 losses this season are all one score losses. I'm having a hard time seeing them losing by more in this one.

They also played a historically easy schedule that included:
  • 10 games (59%) against teams drafting in the top 12 (!!!)
  • 14 games (82%) against teams that finished with a losing record
  • 0 NFC teams that finished with a winning record

They also went 1-2 in three games against teams that finished with a winning record in the regular season. They have not played a team of the Seahawks' caliber this season and it's not even close.

Exactly. And they didn't run through exactly a huge gauntlet in the playoffs either.

Looks like letting Darnold walk got the Vikings' GM fired.

Maybe drafting a QB whose college success was predicated on cheating was a bad idea.

I'm still not convinced he was a bad pick and won't pan out. Sometimes it just takes guys a little longer.

McCarthy did win his last four starts (largely but cutting down the turnovers) this season and the Vikings ended up 9-8.  Yeah it was a big step back but it wasn't like the they were 3-14.

I don't think McCarthy will be as good as Sam Darnold is now.  But then again, who really thought Darnold would turn his career around like this?  Yeah Darnold had that really good year with the Vikings, but man did he look awful at the end of their run.

It was really only the playoff game where he was bad.

Right but it certainly didn't instill a lot of confidence.  That entire year people kept waiting for the wheels to fall off like it did when Darnold was with the Jets.  Good on him he made it to a Super Bowl after all of it and is likely to win it.

I've learned not to judge any QB based on his performance in New York or Cleveland.

And the Vikes also had the precedence of letting Case Keenum walk despite an out-of-nowhere good year and not getting punished for it.

Seahawks are going to be up for sale after the Super Bowl and I fear for them, as they've seemed to be one of the best-run teams in the NFL for a while.

On Wednesday's Today show on NBC, a fellow Patriots fan who had just arrived in the Bay Area said "it's nice to be hated, again". (Not that the hatred went away entirely, in the years when the Patriots sucked.)

Between the Belichick incident, Shanahan being only 5th in coach of the year (not to mention Johnson being only 4th), and the pro bowl disasters, after the past week I'm never going to look at any of these subjective awards the same. Or at all, really.

Not directly related to the current season, but I don't see a better thread for it: Sonny Jurgensen has died at age 91.

"That sounded stupid, didn't it?"

They got the MVP pick right with Matt Stafford though.

Bad weekend to be a Redskin alumnus. Barry Wilburn died in a house fire at age 62.

The Nevada sports books are saying the wagering has been heavily on the Seahawks at -4-1/2 and the Over at 45-1/2.

Each year the Nevada Gaming Control Board puts out a report a couple days later showing the total amount wagered on the Super Bowl and how much the sports books won (or possibly lost) on the betting.  Last year the books' win was $22.1M or 14.6% of the total $151.6M wagered.  The books definitely have rooting interests, and this year it's for a low-scoring game with the Patriots winning outright or the Seahawks winning by 4 or fewer points.

Anybody who created or approved the Super Bowl TV commercials needs to be busted down to scrubbing toilets in the office building.

Max Rockatansky

Snooze fest of a first half.

The ones I see are with the sound off, which can be a fun way to do it.  "What could this commercial be for, and who thought talking toilet seats would be a good way to sell their product?"

I can safely say that the game winner will be the team that scores the most points.  Otherwise, I'm far more concentrating my current competitive sports interest on the Olympics.

If I owned an NFL team Mike Vrabel would be getting an absolute earful in my office for kicking a PAT down 19-6 in the 4th quarter of a game his offense could barely score in.

What a sleepy game, only good part was the halftime.

Hey, at least the Seahawks are probably gonna win!
