There is a user who is under pretty hefty restrictions right now, but nobody but that user knows about it because all of our communication on the matter has been through PM. This is our preferred way of dealing with things, as it is the one that gives us the most bang for the buck in terms of the improved behavior vs. drama ratio.

If you fucked up and broke a rule, but intended to avoid doing so in the future, would you want it broadcasted to the entire forum?

— How come I never see ____x____ suffer any action from the moderators?

— How do you know what the moderators have told him in private or what forum restrictions he is or was subject to?

— Well, it's obviously not as severe as what they told or did to ____y____ in the past.

— And how do you know what the moderators told that person in private or what forum restrictions he is or was subject to?

— Well, it's obviously more severe than whatever they may or may not be telling or doing to ____x____.

I will agree that it's pretty rude to think the other party is subhuman, just because it's often made up of kobolds or orcs or something like that. Besides, humans aren't as great as they think they are because they get a +1 to everything.

I'm on the other end of the pendulum, albeit I'm not a member of any party: I see those I disagree with the most being all too human.

Not that this needs validation, but having been through this (when I was new to the forum and much less mature, FWIW), it did force me to think twice before posting and contributed to higher post quality.

Association football. It looks like it's the only sport in existence over here, but I just find what you call "soccer" overrated.
Supporter of the construction of several running gags, including I-366 with a speed limit of 85 mph (137 km/h) and the Hypotenuse.

Please note that I may mention "invalid" FM channels, i.e. ending in an even number or down to 87.5. These are valid in Europe.

You might be able to turn it into an advantage during El Clásico; with everyone glued to a TV set (or equivalent), you can find quiet places which are normally busy or crowded.

With soccer there is so much nationalism at the top tiers of the sport.  That has never excited me as a sports enthusiast.  It certainly explains why I can't get into soccer or competitions like the Olympics.  I prefer my rooting interest be more localized to a city or geographic area.

Kind of disagree with your first statement. Most people in England care far more about their club team than they do the national team.

There is actually some disdain for international football since players get paid by their club, but often go out and get injured on international duty.

Fair enough, but I should clarify most of my exposure is from extended family who have a huge investment in following the Mexican national team.  I don't dislike soccer, I just can't find a rooting interest for me.  I don't think the MLS will cut it given Orlando had a team when I lived there.

I would posit that club soccer is more important in Europe and international soccer is more important in the Americas.

The USMNT is doing their best to make international soccer fairly irrelevant here too. :)

I don't know if regionally popular things count. I know where I can go to watch a Cricket match or an Australian rules football game, but that doesn't make me the average American.

A Brit friend got me interested in cricket by watching the Ashes online through some hinky streaming links. There are enough South Asians living in Collin County now that my city is building cricket grounds.

Baseball, but longer.

The Brits would argue that rounders is closer to baseball than cricket is.

There are enough people, mainly immigrants from cricket-mad parts of the world and their descendants, living in the USA for the powers-that-be to field an über-competitive national 'test' team.  My reading on this from several years ago on the reasons why they don't is that they haven't been able to get the east and west coastal factions together on the issue (although this may well have been resolved since then).  There are a LOT of fans in those parts of the world that would love to do national test matches against a USA national team.   Remember that during their free time, the soldiers of Washington's Army in the Revolutionary war played pick-up cricket and the first ever recorded international cricket match was played between teams from Canada and the USA in NYC (1848?).  Had the powers-that-be in charge of the game not resisted professionalization in the immediate post-Civil War era, baseball would have never started up to fill the void, the USA would be a total TERROR in international circles and we would now be trash-talking the end of the cricket season instead of the upcoming Baseball playoffs.  (Would there even be a 'FIFA'?)
