You are world-renowned psychiatrist Dr Gedda Leif. You have a patient who presents with severe symptoms of I-343 Outrage Syndrome. What course of treatment will you pursue?

The patient will be presented with a bunch of reassurance shields that use Clearview numerals.

"That sounded stupid, didn't it?"

Suggest that I-343 is actually a Halo reference to get Millennial gamers to rally around it, causing the patient to eventually want to be a part of something cool, or give them a new outlet for their disgust: video games.

Unfortunately for our friend, Dr Leif is not a roadgeek and she does not understand the issue. After some uncomfortable and fruitless sessions, she has our friend committed to an institution. There he (and it must be a he, right?) is assigned to live in room 238 and has most of his therapy sessions in lab 99. Consequently he never recovers and spends the rest of his life institutionalized.

What highways would you renumber and what would you renumber them to?
I-238/CA 238 to I-480/CA 480. The Embarcadero Freeway's been gone for 35 years, so who cares about the number being associated with that eyesore on the San Francisco waterfront?

but on the other hand, nobody cares about the I-238 numbering except a few roadgeeks.  Everyone else would just be confused by the number change.  Even changing the signs will cost something, and with more important projects than they have money for I don't blame Caltrans for not rushing ahead to change I-238.

I'm also not happy with so many freeways in the Bay Area being x80s.  Full set, except for 180 and 480.  It's boring and they are easily confused by newcomers.

I usually tell my wife about things like I-238 to get an analog for what a normal person would think.  Upon being apprised to the I-238 situation and how it was a numbering scheme violation her response was:

"I just go where the GPS tells me to."

It's truly a shame that the number system here in the US means that, at least in theory, neither a US 777 or I-777 would really be able to get anywhere close to Las Vegas.

...though I suppose there's nothing stopping Nevada from designating an NV 777 in the Vegas area...

You sure?  Just have NDOT submit an application for any compliant freeway in the Las Vegas Metro area.  As I-343 has recently shown even 777 would probably be approved by AASHTO.

I still say I-11 should have been numbered I-13.  It would fit the grid better.  Not to mention most visitor's experience "gaming".

Well, other than the 77x block being allocated to Esmeralda County. (773 and 774 already both exist there.)

Make it a highway from Reno to Las Vegas that passes through Esmeralda County then. Problem solved! :colorful:

What were the two biggest contributing factors to the collapse of the Francis Scott Key Bridge in March 2024?

Certain AARoads forum members who have impassioned opinions about that bridge failed to start discussing its replacement early enough, such that there was insufficient hot air to keep the bridge in place.

What were the two biggest contributing factors to the collapse of the Francis Scott Key Bridge in March 2024?

- A bunch of mermaids were singing and distracted the ship's crew.

- The bridge was chilly and wanted to close its piers together to stay warm

I didn't say two forum members. But I did identify two things. (1) Forum members were not discussing it. (2) Insufficient hot air.

(Yeah, I knew you were going to object to my response, so I thought about whether to modify it and decided it was easier to call those two different things. The first one was a proximate cause of the second.)
