C'mon, state DOT's! It's the 21st century, way past time to lose the planar mindset. Let's start seeing some spheres & cubes & other 3-D (or higher-D) highway shields out there!

It's actually the 23rd century. Our hypercubes and 24-cells are overdue.

Quote from: kkt on December 21, 2025, 06:29:23 PMYeah, if I figured out how to make a hypercube, making them into road signs would definitely be my highest priority.
 :spin:

Since we can't perceive 4 dimensions, just make any shape you want & call it a hypercube.  We would have to take your word for it anyway.

The number eight.  The route number would be in the lower part of the 8.

One state could use a sphere instead of a circle, sort of like 76 gas stations. Of course, that state couldn't have a route 76, then.

12/22/2025: There are a few symbolic route numbers out there, such as NY 747 going to an airport and NM 6563 being numbered after a specific wavelength based on the observatory there. What other symbolic numbered routes should exist?

US-321 heading northwest from Cocoa, Florida.  Wait, wait.  There is an area code that already covers this one.

NM-603 should be NM-3 because it goes to Pie Town and pi is exactly three.

The state of Washington is way overdue in designating an SR 59 on San Juan Island to commemorate the 1859 Pig War between the US and UK, if for no other reason than to finally honor all the brave souls who lost their lives in that terrible conflict.

IDOT should make the Kinzie Street Bridge part of Illinois Route 800, to commemorate the incident on August 8, 2004, when the Dave Matthews Band's tour bus dumped a tank containing 800 pounds of human waste through the bridge's grate and onto a passing tour boat.

CT 3 between I-91 and CT 2 should be I-86, because:
1) that was the plan before it was cancelled
2) the number is slang for "cancel, get rid of, etc."

If people protest that it will get confused with the three other I-86'es in space/time, just tilt your head and say "Ya really think so?" and then they'll feel foolish.

I-89 because it crosses I-91, causing a numbering violation for both of them.
