What two forum threads should be merged together, and why?
All the game threads. That will make them much more challenging.

You win this round.  But mostly on a technicality, because hardly anyone else answered the "why" part, or else they suggested more than two threads to merge.

All four Key Bridge threads, because they all contain the same information.

So far, this is the only answer that even comes close to answering the "why" part.
I think the why for my answer is self-explanatory.

How should state DOTs mark time zone lines?

Take a cue from AAA maps and mark the time zone boundaries on the ground by painting a long string of little red capital "T" icons that trace the time zone borders.

(True story: Back when my mother was still teaching, she took some time off one year to accompany my father on a business trip to Uganda. They crossed the Equator multiple times on that trip. My mother said that when she returned to work, one of her eighth-grade students wanted to know what the Equator looked like. She said the student seemed serious about envisioning a line on the ground. That question is part of what made me think of painting the time zone boundaries on the ground. As you might expect, there was a roadside marker for the Equator and they did stop for pictures.)

How should state DOTs mark time zone lines?

By installing adjacent roundabouts. Westbound traffic would drive counter clockwise and eastbound traffic would drive clockwise.

Also, westbound drivers must change their hand position to 9 o'clock and 1 o'clock. Eastbound changes to 11 and 3.

With large pull-out areas for people to stop and take pictures of the little green road sign.

If so desired, stopping to take a picture could be mandatory, not optional.

Roundabouts should straddle the time zone boundary so that travelers can drive around and around in a circle, enabling them to alternate time zones ten times or more before continuing.
