Illinois uses "Chicago Loop" for Downtown Chicago. And don't forget West/North/Northwest/South/Southwest Suburbs!

I mean, I guess it would be kind of weird if Nevada had signs for "Chicago Loop".

You're right. Not many states have overhead signs just stating the name of the state in that direction like Chicago has.

Arrow, Wisconsin.

Quote from: architect77 on November 02, 2025, 03:40:56 PMRaleigh signage does something not often seen. The destination of a few freeways is a broad reference that the route will take you to the Northern part of town. I don't often see guidance to general sides of a city.

This is standard practice along I-80 in Nevada. Most towns have three exits: are West Whatever, Downtown Whatever, and East Whatever.

Winnemucca is high-falutin' with its four exits: West Winnemucca, Winnemucca Downtown West, Winnemucca Downtown East, and East Winnemucca.

Interestingly, NDOT District 1 does not follow this practice on I-15, even though there are a few towns north of Las Vegas where they could.

Michigan also uses "DOWNTOWN" quite a bit.

North Carolina call out city centers using the all caps DOWNTOWN all over the state (except Charlotte which calls it center Uptown), but that's more of a central and obviously important specific destination.

Interesting that Las Vegas suburb towns also use the general sides of town as destinations like Raleigh

Winnemucca is very much not a suburb of Las Vegas.

They could sneak one on 80 EB...but would be wildly unnecessary and out of place

Do states other than Minnesota post tiny road signs along the ditches specifically for snowmobiles?

Michigan posts signs when snowmobile trails cross roads, but I'm not sure they're quite so small or obscure as those examples.

Quite a bit? They always used DOWNTOWN.

Until recently, North Carolina always used DOWNTOWN, even for small towns where that term doesn't make sense.  And also in that Big City where they don't use the term DOWNTOWN.

Nowadays, the term DOWNTOWN has been removed from the BGSs in Charlotte and there are city-specific E9-1 Interchange Sequence signage that shows the crown logo and properly says UPTOWN.  Therefore, NCDOT can't say they always use DOWNTOWN anymore.

So does Québec... just not in English.

New York has been using blue "TEXT STOP" signs for parking/service/rest areas for a while, and I don't recall seeing them anywhere else. They are sometimes preceded by an "IT CAN WAIT".  Here are a few from the Thruway in far western NY, taken in 2013.

Like, who's going to waste their time stopping to text if they can't also sit on the toilet for 20 minutes scrolling Facebook?

Maybe texting can wait, but sometimes other things can't.

I don't think this has been brought up in this thread yet, what about Tennessee's directional banners? No other state uses these to my knowledge.

I really want to stick another '1' between that '1' and '6', because they're spread so far apart.

I'm unreasonably annoyed that you took the time to edit the picture but left the upside down S.

That is amazing. Thank you.

I also had to look up to see if TN 116 even existed (it does).
