Mulholland Highway “snake” still closed

One of the cahwyguy threads back in September 2023 mentioned that "the snake" portion of Mulholland Highway was going to be reopened soon. Well, it's been over two years, and it's still closed. What really bugs me is there is zero signage at the Kanan/Mulholland junction that informs you of this. You just drive about a half mile and suddenly it's closed.

I don't know how to check up on things like this. What's going on, what caused an over two year delay? Did it get further damaged from weather (which I assumed was the original culprit)? I live in the area so this is usually a nice drive, but for the past few years I've had to detour onto Kanan and then back down to Mulholland.

That's probably a smidge faster, but the views aren't as nice.

There's a closure shown on the County Public Works website, with a reopening date of TBD. I'm not sure that's the segment you're talking about (Lower Brewster Road to Seminole Drive): https://pw.lacounty.gov/roadclosures/ . It says the reason is Woolsey Fire damage. Could be slope problems, or more likely, money problems.

There was some slope repair in 2024, but it hard to see where that was: https://pw.lacounty.gov/tpp/mulholland-hwy/docs/Mulholland-Hwy-14.74-Project-Construction-Notification.pdf

The Snake was supposed to open in 2023 (see https://www.latimes.com/california/story/2023-08-12/the-snake-is-moving-closer-to-reopening-but-can-it-shed-its-dangerous-reputation ) , and I see some segment was to open in 2024 (see https://www.nbclosangeles.com/video/news/local/mulholland-drive-to-reopen-memorial-day-weekend/3412472/ ), but I'm not finding much more.

Given you say you live in the area (I'm guessing Woodland Hills or Agoura), you're not far away. I'm in Northridge.

Woodland Hills, yes. I take PCH and Topanga a lot, this why the construction and fire fallout has been impacting me a lot. (But obviously pales in comparison to what happened).

We need to get together one day. I usually entice people by mentioning Brents :-)

Maybe. Next two weeks I'm in Alaska, though.

I'm retired. As long as it isn't the week of ACSAC (a Computer Security conference I help run), we should be able to work something out.
