Hilarious old scare films

One of my biggest interests is old public service films, like the kind they used to show in schools. This also includes some of the old 15-minute "educational" shows on PBS.

What I'm talking about here is films that warn against shoplifting or teach safety. Some of them are hilarious! There's a lot of them on YouTube now.

In addition to all the shoplifting films, one of them is about how to take care of others' belongings. In this film, a little girl ruins a record album by leaving it on the stereo as it heats up, and her mom gets mad. In another video (which I think was an episode of a PBS show), a teenage girl runs up her parents' credit card and buys a designer jacket, which she immediately ruins by spilling a milkshake on it. In a really old video from the 1950s, a man buys a hi-fi which keeps breaking his records. There was also an old black-and-white film about a guy who purposely gets in trouble in the Army so he gets sent home.

I live for these old films. They're uproarious!

I also like finding the houses where they were filmed. The film about the hi-fi was filmed at a house in Detroit. Much of the film about the ruined jacket was filmed at a house in Fairfax, Virginia.

These films are so funny!
Might as well face it, pooing is cool

We must work untiringly so our children are obliged to learn the truth.  Because it is only through knowledge that we can safely protect.  Failing this the next tragedy may be that of your daughter, or your son, or yours, or yours, or yours...

We saw some anti-drug films in school, I think it was 8th grade. One starred Sonny and Cher. Another one, a girl in class fainted because she saw a line-drawing animation of someone shooting up.

Here's a good parody of a driver's ed scare video. A lady who got so wrapped up with a problem at work...
My first SF/horror short story collection is available: "Young Man, Open Your Winter Eye"

Mystery Science Theater 3000 has gotten a lot of mileage out of riffing on those old PSAs. It's also the only reason I'm familiar with them.

The IT Crowd had a good parody.  Downloading movies IS stealing.  If you do it, you WILL face the consequences!!!

Also, let's appreciate that her internet is really fast.

I liked that show enough to be saddened when it became evident what a prick Graham Linehan is.

Yeah.  The internet episode is especially jarring - every other episode that Douglas Reynholm makes an ass of himself we're supposed to laugh at him, but from what we now know about Graham Lineham, it's clear that this one time we were intended to take him seriously and side with him rather than April.

There was an Irish drunk driving / reckless driving PSA where a car lost control and rolled over a group of schoolchildren which added a 'squish' noise.

"You're deep, Ernie."

"Woah! I almost ran over Kissinger. I'll have to go back."
May or may not be batticorn.

I also collect traffic lights, road signs, fans, and railroad crossing equipment.
