Almost thought this was AI of the Bay Bridge

Who knew there was another overpass on Yerba Buena Island for the Worlds Fair? There's absolutely no evidence it was ever there now.

I just Googled "World's Fair San Francisco," and since the Bay and Golden Gate Bridges date back to 1936-37, the closest I could find was the second event ever held there, aka the Golden Gate International Exposition of 1939-40. (The other one was the Panama-Pacific International Exposition, and it was held in 1915.)

The main point of the Golden Gate International Exposition was, in fact, to celebrate the Golden Gate Bridge and the San Francisco–Oakland Bay Bridge.

So it proves that the OP's photo is indeed real. Of course, when the Bay Bridge became a part of the Interstate system, the at-grade intersections were gone, and the tunnel was built where the roadway bridge once existed.

If we're talking about the tunnel through the island, that was part of the original design. This cross overpass was in front of the tunnel entrance, on an alignment that doesn't exist any more. Here are two more pix I found that show this overpass:

But this traffic jam image does have an AI feel. There's a vehicle coming up the off ramp, which makes no sense whatsoever. Perhaps lots of cars were added to a more conventional image. And it looks like westbound traffic is being routed out of the tunnel and onto the island, preventing anyone from going into the city. I don't get it.

What's the original source of that image?

The Yerba Buena Tunnel that 80 goes through now was yes, but I thought you were saying another tunnel exists now other than that one.
