Here a chain that's filing for bankruptcy as of December 2025.

I went on my first date with my now wife to a Pielogy.  She likes to celebrate that day with dinner out.  I guess she'll have to settle for something else at the Fig Garden shopping center.

How newsworthy is it, really, when the company was founded less than 15 years ago?  I'm wearing socks that are older than Pieology.

I've never heard of them. I assume they don't exist in the northeast US?

Pieology should be the study of the theoretical ancestor of Indo-European languages.

It's irrational to think piology was going go on forever.

I saw a video last week about the struggles that many of the "make-your-own" pizza chains are facing - Pieology, Blaze, and Mod. The video states that they were all trying to become the Chipotle of pizza (which has its own issues, of course).

There was a Mod about 5 minutes from us - we would order from there every couple of weeks since we could each get our own small pizza just how we wanted and it wasn't crazy expensive (a $14 pizza could get me two meals). Over the last year the service declined markedly - if we didn't order in person there would always be something wrong on the pizza). The location closed about 6 months ago.

Is it really any different than any other pizza joint?  Can't you custom-order a pizza pretty much anywhere?  Walking down the counter Qdoba-style is about the only difference I see, and I'm not sure why that's supposed to be an advantage.

They had a lot of topping which weren't common along chain pizza places.  Probably didn't help them keep supply prices down though.

Looking at the sizes, the allow ordering smaller pizzas than is typical.  Around here, there are a couple places that start at 10 inches, but for most places 12 inches is the absolute minimum, and many start at 14 or 16 inches.  In other words, ordering a pie for just yourself isn't practical at most pizza places around here.

You know what I do if I want a custom pizza? I make it myself. And it costs less to do so.

Yeah but when you're trying to impress someone on a date it isn't all that bad.  Not exactly fancy but doesn't come off like a date a IHOP either.

I mean, if I wanna impress a potential girlfriend, I will show her how good my pizza skills are...

I'm referring to an eHarmony sourced first data.  Jessica wasn't going to just let me come over to her house without at least meeting her.  I'm honestly surprised she agreed to go hiking at Kings Canyon on a second date.

We had all of those make your own chains here but Mod is the only one that still exists. Pieology had one location in North Charleston that lasted about a year tops. Blaze lasted a little longer but there's just so many different pizza places around it's a rough market. Mod still does well in the local shopping center it is in.
