I'd say it's in the Midwest.

Xinjiang is probably midwest China at least.... (Another area you could definitely call Central Asia)

Mongolia has many connections with Central Asia. Bayan-Ölgii is the only aimag that is predominantly Kazakh, and for a time they had signage in Kazakh instead of Mongolian.

The G581 in Xinjiang has Russian transcriptions (although they used a rather primitive translator).

Kyrgyzstan is one of the Central Asian countries that has begun to rehabilitate its ring roads. The Northern Ring Road in Bishkek is expected to be completed this year.

Quote from: JayhawkCO on January 12, 2026, 04:55:37 PMAnd, to expound, at a minimum, I should get some mileage on:

UZB E003
UZB E40
UZB AH63
UZB AH5
UZB AH62
UZB A377 (which I should clinch)
TJK RB12 (which I should clinch)
TJK AH7
TJK A65

I haven't decided which stretches I'm taking the train vs. a shared car yet and I don't have daytrips planned from some of the places I'll be staying. TBD.

I just booked a day trip to Turkmenistan pending my visa acceptance. When in Rome, right? So I'll be crossing the border from Khiva, Uzbekistan and visiting Konya-Urgench in Turkmenistan, and I will get some mileage on TKM E40/A381. I think the original plan is to come back across the same border, but I might be able to tell them I want to cross the border near Nukus, Uzbekistan so that I can get a clinch. :) Looks like I'll be the first person in TM to have any Turkmen mileage.

I was GSVing (and posted this in the GSV thread also) around in Tajikistan and found this pic. This is a road, had I had my own car, that I would definitely want to drive. Figured it might get more visibility here.
